Geauga Lake Job Losses Talked about on WTAM-1100 C

During the 5:00pm news, the newscasters on WTAM spoke of the job cuts on the wildlife side of the park, which will be in the dozens. A soundbite from Brian Witherow was included.

Interesting to hear him on the radio, when I am used to hearing his wife.

I think we are pretty close to the deal closing, if Cedar Fair is already working on the PR for explaining the unfortunate loss of jobs that had to take place for the deal to work.

Yes, WTAM comes in loud and clear in Sandusky. Unfortunately, that means Triv comes in loud and clear. :)

I heard the story as well, though I couldn't figure out why it was news. When CF announced weeks ago that the animal side was closing, what did the media think would happen?

Hey Walt,

I happen to like Triv. A loud mouthed idiot making that much money gives hope to people like me who talk too much :). Besides, he talked about a really cool member of our city council here in Lyndhurst (not Beachwood, Jeff;)), who is currently off fighting in Iraq.

I guess it was just a slow news day, and they needed some filler. Since the acquisition is an ongoing story, this little blurb on WTAM was good filler.

By the way, anybody notice the Clearchannel complex right off the causway entrance? WTAM's sister stations in Sandusky look like they have pretty crummy facilities.

A loud mouthed idiot

Exactly.

But he is entertaining - in an ignoramus sort of way.

Brian Witherow is on at the start of every conference call.

So what more did they say?

What time does the water show start?

I don't think it's just that clearchannel facility that is crummy looking, I think it's all of Sandusky to be honest. Sandusky is one of the ugliest cities I've ever seen. However, it was also the best place I've ever lived.

I guess it is possible to have a diamond or diamonds in the rough. Since I find Sandusky to be home to a host of very nice people and I think CP could be considered a very high priced diamond in the area. ;) Such as very nice looking like a Leo diamond. Not high priced as in prices.

Jeff, he mainly spoke of the unfortunate job losses that came with the deal, and tried to explain why they the people lost their jobs. It was also mentioned in the story (possibly by him), that the number of jobs lost was uncertain.

I heard it again on the morning news today on WTAM.

Oh, and Sandusky is great, except I can never seem to find that auto parts plant they made a movie about;).

Sorry, but I needed to make another post to quote:

WTAM can be heard in 38 states and half of Canada at night (according to the station itself). I am pretty sure it can be heard at the point, even during the day.

Jobs may be lost on the wildlife side, but they will be replaced in the form of sweeps, ride operators, food hosts, and countless other positions that Cedar Fair will have to add onto the park in order to have it run at their standards.

I have drove to Detroit many times, and still pulled them in. Going to see the Indians play the Motor City Kitties, and I heared WTAM as I was parking the car around the corner from old Tiger Stadium.

You can listen live over the net at www.wtam.com

It is my understanding that close to 100 of 170 full timers including retail (foods/games/gifts) and ops were let go.
I heard 75 out of 150 so were let go so you it is probably something along those lines gener. I don't know though if that was both "sides" of the park or just the Geauga Lake side after the Animal Side folks had already been given notice.

When my wife and I went to BGW, I surprisingly tuned in WTAM during a Tribe game. I was shocked when it was actually the Tribe's flagship station. (I think at the time it was WWWE)

But when I am at home in Erie, it is very rare when I can get WTAM.

Beer and golf Thursday thru Monday, Cedar Point & beer, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Perhaps it was 20 to 25 stayed with SFI and 75 of the remaining 150 were let go. Either way many of the people involved with the downfall of WOA were let go. At least something good came from it.
Heh, i've been able to bring in WTAM at night in Montana and Wyoming. Something about the ionosphere or something, I don't know.
