Geauga Lake.. Good or Bad?

Well , Its not one of my favorite places on earth. Maybe a nice big new roller coaster would help? I still have the stigma that there once was a great park accross the lake called Sea World. Man, what a place. I loved this park. A Busch owned property is like no other. The whales and the pearl diving were great. The Landscaping was so beautiful. and The cleanliness was the best. Now its long gone. No trace of the old Sea World. Will Geauga Lake Survive? Problably, But I dont really like there coasters and the water park which is well Developed and planned out, Just doesnt do any thing for me. Does any one else miss Sea World ? I know I do?

Oh I would have to say no. The water park will have a lot more to offer in the future. This place does not compare to Cedar Point but is better than a lot of other amusement parks.

I really like GL. The water park is better than most water parks out there, and if they ever give it more attractions to make it not so small, it will be amazing. And while the ride side doesn't have the most stellar line up of attractions, it still has very good ones and is a great looking park.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Aint coasterin, you are comparing apples to oranges. Sea World is nothing like an amusement park. It is simply an attraction. You go there, look at some fish, watch a few shows, and maybe feed Shamu.

Geauga Lake is a very nice park, but I think some people to try to compare it to other parks where there is no comparison. While Cedar Point is all about having the tallest, fastest, record breaking, etc. rides, I am not so sure that was ever Geauga Lake's motive, even when it wasn't owned by Cedar Fair.

As far as Sea World goes, I am not so sure there is really a market for looking at sea creatures anymore. CP's Oceana folded up long ago, and Sea World couldn't make a go of it, either.

In answer to your question, GL is good. People need to just give it a try. If you want to go to a busy park, wait in long lines, and leave at the end of the day not feeling like you rode very much, go to Cedar Point. If you want to go to a "smaller", laid back park, ride everything, play at the waterpark, and just enjoy the day with your family and friends, then Geauga Lake is for you.

All I know is I wish we had GL in Buffalo,N.Y. than DL. I think GL has more to offer than DL. All DL has is ROS.

geauga lake needs a new roller coasters for people around united states to come to geauga lake and cedar point to keep geauga lake open for very long time.

Guys, Six Flags built five coasters in two years. How did that help?I still don't think the park "need" anything other than a serious PR blitz to get the word out about what a nice park it is. I think word of mouth is cetainly helping, because it seems more crowded this year than last.

Agreed. It's funny how people think that Geauga Lake needs a roller coaster when Cedar Fair has been removing coasters ever since they acquired the property. Believe it or not, huge roller coasters are not the key to success. Marketing and offering a clean park with quality service are.

Hail to the Victors

From what I understand (someone please correct me if I am wrong) I hear that Maverick has not brought crowd numbers up that much. From what I understand they are less than they were last year at this point. If a 25 mil ride doesnt help CP it sure isnt going to help GL.

I was at the lake today and I got to say it was very busy.....The rides lot was FULL and the midways was packed. It was nice to see the park so busy today all though the lines were still not bad. Things might be turning around for this little gem.

still one of my favorite parks ever. anyone know why rwb derailed?

eat @ bob evans, dennys sucks!

Yay!!! I am so glad to hear they were busy today. I tell everyone about GL and how great it is.

Btw, does anyone know if RWB is still closed down?

Yes RWB was still closed as well as The Villain! Also I was at the Point for Joe Cool and CP was also Packed.

Why is The Villain closed?

Yes, why was the Villian closed? Any word on how long it will be closed for?

I was there friday at the end of June and villian was open. we rode it and they fixed that horrible track section! it was sooo smooth and nice! I also asked about RWB and they said it did not derail, the train went backwards out of the staion instead of forward and somehow got stopped on the track. that's what they told me at least.

Marketing would be the best place GL could spend money right now. I doubt a coaster would do anything for attendance at this point. They may get a few extra people through the gate with a new coaster, but what would keep them coming back? I've been to GL twice and had excellent experiences. I truly loved it since the wait times for any ride was almost non-existant. Now, if they would only get better food choices...

my girlfriend and i visited GL not too long ago for the first time......i was actually surprised- we enjoyed it much more than we thought we would.......they have some decent rides (dominator, thunderhawk, big dipper).......and its a much diff. atmosphere from CP or KI, but an enjoyable one nonetheless.....i think we rode dominator five times.....thunderhawk only once b/c the line was quite long...

my main complaint is that on almost every ride they only had one train running......i think the only one they had more than one running was on dominator.....and the ride ops on their white water canyon were horribly inefficient, or maybe its the way it was set up, especially in comparison to KI....the ride lasted about 3 minutes, but it took us 10+ minutes to get off the ride...

If I am not mistaken, didn't Six Flags offer Some rediculous amount of money to buy Sea World and that is why they chose to close the park.

Ridin' till I'm Dyin'

Seems to me that GL is still suffering from the stigma that Six Flags left for it. We went there a year or two before CF bought it and the park was not well maintained. Trash cans were overflowing by mid day. Bathrooms were not cleaned during the day and were down right disgusting by mid afternoon. Ride ops were slow and rude. Pretty much the exact opposite of CF parks. I think that is what CF thought they could bring to GL. But I think its taken them longer than expected to turn that image around.

And I understand what they did when they pulled out some of the existing rides. But I don't think that helped PR much. Image was bad at the time and having people hear that rides are being removed makes people want to go there even less.

My wife and kids go there when they want a short drive and a less intense day at an amusement park. Crowds last year were really light when they went. Not sure they have gone yet this year. But if the park can continue to overcome the image issues it had, hopefully it can continue. They do have some good rides and the water park is nice.
