Gallery suggestion...

Here's an idea...

How about a set of forward/backward links BELOW the photo on the gallery pages? On my screen (1024x768) there isn't room for both the thumbnail view with the navigation buttons AND the gallery photo...I usually have to scroll down to see the photo. It would be nice to be able to go on to the next photo without having to scroll back up again...

I've been thinking about the gallery myself. I've got an idea to change the scrolling thumbnails, but I've got to work out the tech side with Jeff to see what the pros and cons might be. (This is news to him. I haven't had a chance to design a mock up of my idea. :) )

I don't like how you have to wait for all the thumbnails to load for every picture I want to view.

While its loading, right click where the picture should be and select "show picture" this will force IE to download and display that picture before continuing with the rest of the thumbnail pics. Its a bit annoying, but IE translates the page in a top-down fashion, and since the TN's are above the main pic, they get done first.

The scrolling thumbnail is a good idea, except, every time you select a picture to be shown full size, it moves the horizontal scroll bar for the thumbnails all the way back to the beginning. Sometimes its hard to find where I was (I'm prolly a little dumb). To me, it would be better if you could get it to stay in the place where you were when you seleceted the picture. I love the idea, but to me, this is just a little frustration. Otherwise, I love how the site flows...

Well, in theory, once the thumbs have loaded, you shouldn't have to wait for them to load again...they should cache. So that shouldn't be a problem.

For me, what is a problem is that between the ad, the masthead and the thumbnails, the main photo starts near the bottom of the page...hence the suggestions for links below.

Most of the time there isn't rooom on the screen for both the thumbs and the main picture, particularly since Walt seems to really like shooting 'portrait' shots. :)

Do you guys really spend that amout of time in the Gallery? Wow! I thought the vids/posts/pics that are here are enough.

I am also a little annoyed with what pyrocoasterkid was referring to. Is there a way to freeze the scroll bar to where it is when you select a picture so that you don't have to scroll back over every time you load a new picture?

I agree with pyrocoasterkid and CP_bound. It is a slight annoyance. The pics are always good though. :)

I have got a new idea for the gallery when pictures are updated who ever puts them on should save some and they should get posted through the off season. there would be updates of summer pictures and not just a few winter pictures and the old summer pictures. what do you think?

Yeah new year, and finally got my license, well back in august. Im in need of a trip to the park.

I dont know if there is a way for you guys to do this but if you made the top part and the main pic seperate frames then the thumbnails would not have to load every time you click on a new picture. That is my problem. I dont honlesty mind the scroling part.

You could also probally make it so each pic oppened in a new window. That way the scroll bar wouldn't return each time.

Just suggestions. The site is really nice. Keep up the good work. Havent seen the pics anywhere else. I suppose thats b/c you take them yourself. ( I design a few webpages my self I use frontpage. I dont know what you use but if I wrote in HTML code it would take to long and the way I type it would have an error on every line. LOL) *** Edited 8/1/2005 2:29:02 AM UTC by cedarpoint24/7***

Speaking of photos. I am in the market for a digital SLR. What do you guys use to take the gallery pics? They are awesome.
