Awe heck. I saw a story about that on PBS one time (best PBS story ever). I think It got towed up to one of other great lakes. The part I remember best in the story was the Boecklings Red engine pistons that you could watch. Something wants to make me say somewhere in Michigan, but I am not sure. I thought the thing was scraped along time ago. Maybe not.

Sorry to say, but the Boeckling is now scrap. It burned a few years ago. Arson is suspected but I don't think any one has been arrested.
Sprint Car is right;according to "The Dan Haverlock Unofficial Cedar Point Pocket Almanac"

June 21, 1989: the GA Boeckling caught on fire in a Toledo shipyard.

The Boeckling debacle is a shameful incident in Sandusky-Cedar Point history, IMHO. A non-profit group engineered the return of the boat to Sandusky, and made arrangements for a major refit in a yard in Toledo. There was much rejoicing when the boat returned to the Jackson Street pier, the whole town turned out. Unfortunately, there was much internal squabbling over the disposition of funds, and how the work should progress. It was towed to Toledo to have the major refit work done, and was left essentially unguarded. It is suspected that squatters either accidentally started the fire, or that vandals set it on purpose. In either event, the wooden superstructure burned to the waterline, leaving a burned-out steel hulk. It was eventually cut up for scrap. The most shameful part is that the non-profit group, "Friends of the Boeckling", continued their internal fighting for years afterward, and there was a considerable dollar amount of donated funds which were not expended, on the project, and to this day, as I understand, no satisfactory explanation has been offered as to the disposition of the money. The whole affair was a classic cluster-f**k from start to tragic finish, and I place the blame for all of it squarely on the the board of directors of "Friends of the Boeckling".

I feel fortunate that I was able to tour the boat when it was brought back in the early 80's. I don't remember a whole lot, but I have home movies to remember the trip. My dad was a regular on the boat back in the 40's and early 50's and it was nice to share that with him.

I was at a down sizing estate sale this morning... I purchased what I believe and was told by the Lady a "G.A. Boeckling" sign that was on the front of the captains deck of the ferry. I did do research and found pics of this sign online... I was kinda set back.. I asked the lady how she got the sign. She told me that her husband worked on the ferry at the docks in Toledo and the ferry burnt in 1989. She said he removed it before it was completely gone. This is a Great estate find..... I am the owner of an Antique shop and will be selling this sign. It is in great shape and has alittle old age wear and tear... I am going to do some research on the value of this Great piece of history.

Wow. A 15 year old zombie thread, to bring up a topic that started off as interesting - only to turn into a sales pitch.

What? I heard zombie threads were for the reviving around here. That's what all the cool kids are doing these days.

I'm not sure how well you'd be able to do an advanced search on eBay on recently sold on this item since it seems kind of unique but I wouldn't be thinking there's a big market out there for this either. The value is what someone is willing to pay. You might have to wait a very long time for that special buyer.

Good luck.

Hey, thanks, it's an homage to my dear childhood favorite, the Fun House that was ripped out for a playground. Anyway, I tried spelling it the way it was written on the building, the 3 looks pretty bad, though, wanted to do an underlined equal sign but it wouldn't let me. So I put up a sig and a picture of it.

There's actually a mathematical symbol that's a lot closer to what you're looking for.

Or, there are characters for upside-down letters. No idea how well they'd work in a username.

I had tried numerous ways, even copying and pasting from Word and it wouldn't take so I said heck with it and put the 3. But thanks! Like the actual upside down letters.
