FUNTIMES Encouragement

The online newsletter from CP is encouraging theorizing and speculation of the ride.

"While you're at Cedar Point, don't forget to walk down the Magnum Midway to catch a glimpse of our new thrill ride for 2003 now under construction, and speculate on exactly what it is. Or you can visit http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/webcam/index.cfm and check out what it looks like so you can enjoy the fun of theorizing too."

Man they are really comfortable in holding out on an announcement.

Ran into the (a) VP of Marketing last weekend. He was very tight-lipped about everythign but did mention that he was allowed to say the announcement would be in a few months. DOH!! I think the CIA and FBI ought to look at hiring Cedar Point Execs since it is obvious they can keep a secret. Apparantly the Board of Directors approved this one back in May of '01.
May of '01 sounds right. Always believed these were planned two or three years in advanced.

CP is beginning to annoy me with this, just tell us already. ;)

Cedar Point can do what they want, but there is only so much speculation about what it could be. For the most part, most of us have a good idea of what is going in there. This can't go on forever.

With construction progressing like it is, do we really need an announcement? By the time they decide to announce, the thing will be done. Personally, I think it's great what they're doing.

Alright, I'm sure this has been discused at some point but i'm intrested to get peoples opinions. With all this speculation and all the theories don't you think CP has some trick up there sleeve. I mean why send out a letter and encourage speculation since the start of the season ("...building for the future...") if it couldn't live up to or surpass any realistic expectations. Why build all this hype if the only main element is height and we are watching the construction of that as we speak... I think there will be something we would never have foreseen... just a thought
Although to the GP a ride that goes somewhere near 120 mph up a 420 foot tower wouldn't create much less hype than a coaster with more elements than the L-TH-B. No matter what the elements are after the TH, the TH will be mashed potatoes of the ride, the rest will just be gravy. The GP probably thinks its just a Power Tower on steroids ;)

In three months the ride will be built if its a L-TH-B. Why wait three months to tell the public what they are already looking at? Unless the ride is more than L-TH-B:)

It is the statistics that Cedar Point is trying to keep close to the vest for as long as possible. I don't think the course layout has much to do with it at all.
Maybe we will never see an announcement :)
Here's an evil thought...pure speculation on my part...

I think we will see a series of announcements, each giving out little bits of information.

Suppose CP make an announcement in November that says "Well folks, thanks for your patience, we are building a 420ft, 100mph coaster". That would do little than confirm what most people know, and by then can probably see on the webcam. But it would also not confirm/deny the L-TH-B track design.

In the meantime, construction on other elements starts and continues. Then, in December sometime, the webcam is repositioned, and there's an announcement "Well, we have started construction on a 200ft overbanked turn on our new ride, positioned over the Raptor". (ok ok, that last bit is my own personal fantasy)

And so the announcements go, month by month. Each time, there's some sick dude who works for CP Marketing getting his kicks out of watching the feeding frenzy after each announcement is made. And in the meantime, CP has managed to keep our firm attention throughout the winter - much better for them than announcing the whole thing at the end of October.

Just my thoughts on it...

Found the Point in 2002 and love it!

What makes me sick is that CP says to look for an announcement later this season than changes their minds about waiting until the season is long gone!! I do NOT like be misled! Lying is a SIN!!
I spoke with the VP of Park Operations (Bill Spehn) last Saturday. He stated that we should "...follow the footers and the cranes" when I asked him about the new ride. Well...I understand following the footers part...but what does following the cranes have to do with anything? Unless maybe... they were positioned in such a manner that we could figure out more about this coaster by the way the cranes are positioned...i.e. the way the cranes are placed over the weekends, the "v" and "x" shapes of the cranes and where they are located in the construction area! Something to think about. Also...when I asked about why there is one white piece on the one side, he stated "Maybe it will be red on one side and alternate red and white on the other." When I said "Wouldn't that be kinda strange to have one side solid and the other alternating?" Bill's comment: "So?" I could only laugh. Bill is a very, very nice man. I am kinda glad they are not handing out info to just anybody, the mystery is suspenseful and exciting. After all...we will see this thing next season anyway! I didn't want to pry...however; I was willing to take any info he was willing to hand out...and some things I won't repeat here. It was a neat experience to meet a real "silver tag!"
