Frontier Lift

"I was told that the Frontier Lift was taken down because people would smoke marijuana on it. You were secluded in a bunch of trees and that was the only area in the park where you were alone."

Most likely untrue. There are many other places to smoke pot at the point. The far end of the beach near the Magnum turn around, the parking lot, the ferris wheel etc.

I have a feeling Cedar Point would come up with another solution to that problem to that issue instead of shutting the ride down. I'm sure that security cameras could be installed if they really wanted to answer that problem.
True... especially because they had great security cameras in the early 70's. They even had wireless technology that would be needed to include a camera in each gondola.

Now that I think about....Even if it was possible to extend Sky Ride to the original Frontier Lift Station I wouldn't do it. It just wouldn't be the same as the original lift back to Frontier Town when you would soar over the former remote area of CP. It would all be over and under coaster track.

Is there any major construction on SR2, or the Ohio Turnpike? Or even on (SR?)250? I know Interstate 280 thru Toledo may cause some delays. Any other delays that someone may know of?

How long was the Mill Race called the Nestea Plunge?

I believe, and someone back me up on this, but it was only the big drop (not the whole ride) that was called Nestea Plunge because it was sponsored by Nestea, and only for a year or two.
Walt had some info I thought on VM, maybe it'll make its way onto his new history site.
Which reminds me, how's that comin along?

Nestea Plunge was the name for 1 or 2 seasons. Maps from 1979 and 1981 call it Mill Race, but Tim said that he worked on it 1981 and they used Nestea Plunge then as well.

Haven't started the history site yet - it's an off-season project.

In the map link from 1980 (3 posts above) it was named Nestea Plunge as well.

I have a picture on my website of the Western Cruise building/dock and the frontier lift.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

They moved it to put the IRON DRAGON in that area.

JuggaLotus's avatar

They didn't "move" it, they removed it.

The midway station was where Iron Dragon's station now sits. The other station is still standing. It was converted into the bathrooms by Mine Ride and SkyHawk.

Yep, the Frontier Lift was removed prior to the 1987 season to make room for Iron Dragon. There is no way there was enough of an incline to go over Iron Dragon. Plus, as mentioned, it opened the door for future expansion, which ended up being MF and STR.

Wow... looking all the way back to 2004 to make that comment. :)
