Frontier Lift

Sorry if this was already discussed, but can anyone provide some background information on the old Frontier Lift? As in, where were the stations located, when was it removed, etc?
I'm not sure when it was installed (it was always there as far as I was concerned!) but its last year was 1985...and in 1986 when I asked about it, a park employee even told me it had been removed to make room for 1987's new attraction. The drive station is still standing...it's that large building in Frontier Town with the two ramps on it right next to the Mine Ride exit ramp...you know, the one with the sign on the door that says, "PUBLIC REST ROOMS." I'm a little fuzzier on where the other station was...let me see...it would have been about where Coasters is now, offset a little more towards the present Wildcat location. It was a long ride, and I think its tubs are the ones now running on the Sky Ride.

Of course you mean the FT's last season was 1985 and was gone in 1986 to make room for 1987 (Iron Dragon), right Dave? :)

According to the 1985 wall map, the other station was located between the Paddlewheel Cafe and the Monster. Today that would be between Coasters and the Iron Dragon queue.

During the late 80's, I strongly remember the FT tubs running on the Sky Ride. They were painted to their current colors sometime around 1994.

The foundation is still there. It remains a empty lot. Sad when standing in line for the Dragon and seeing a big empty slab of cement. Those where the days. When you could choose to ride Western Cruise (now Paddlewheel Excursions) and then get a arial view of the boats even though many trees blocked the water. Every season they take away from the peaceful lagoons. I fear that they soon will be nothing more than masquito breeding grounds. The boats running silent and the trees being made into toothpicks. :(

The foundation is NOT there... the building sat in the area of the Iron Dragon queue and transfer track. Where is this empty slab of cement? There's a new patio for Coasters and the ID queue... that's it.

Frontier Lift was opened in 1969(?). It was the most peaceful ride to and from Frontier Town. Jeff is ALMOST correct. The Mainland station sat just to the left of where coasters is today. The Western Cruise station and the Monster sat where ID queue area is...that's it.
Old Timer Tim is 100% correct about the Mainland station and...that's it. The station in Frontier Town, as mentioned, is still there and used as restrooms. I keep waiting for a flat ride to go in it's place.

The empty slab that people are talking about might be the area where the queue for The Iron Dragon was removed last year. I think that there is just grass there now. Whatever. *** This post was edited by net on 12/29/99. ***
About the Funway side of the Frontier Lift station...

Go out the side door of Coasters (towards Imax), go about 5 paces, make a right, go about 10-15 paces towards Iron Dragon queue line... You're there!

For the Frontier Town side of the lift station, go over to the gallery (historical photos on this site), there is a shot of that in Pete Babic's section. You will recognize the building as being the restroom next to the Mine Ride's exit.

maybe I was mistaken but I could of sworn that that empty slab was part of it (no not the grass the cement). It looks like part of a foundation. Again I could and probably am wroung. Can I get a picture of the old station some place?

body,
If you go over to the Historical photos section of this site.. Look at the following:

From Space Spiral - 1978 (Babic)
-and-
Skyline - 1985 (deHaas)

If you look just to the left of the 2 Corkscrew loops, you'll see the station. Now it's not close up, but it gives you an idea (you'll also notice the Paddlewheel Refreshments in front of it, and just to the right.)

I also remember coming across a web site a while back that had a park map from the mid to late 70's on it. I'll see if I can find that site...

We all know the REAL millennium doesn't start until May 13!

That picture is not to clear. I just wanted to see if I was right or not.
