From Detroit: directions construction and such

Have to ask another question before going down Sunday morning. This is the first time I'm driving down myself (well, with friends). I've MapQuest'd and Yahoo Map'd the way down from Detroit to Sandusky. Basically it goes I-75 south --> I-280 --> I-80/90 --> Exit 110/6A. MapQuest estimates 2 hours 15 minutes.

First off does anyone know about construction on I-75 south between Detroit and the Ohio border? Second, is Route 2 any faster? I was reading the thread regarding the accident on Rte. 2, however out of the 5 trips to CP in the past 3 years, 4 times (including a school physics day bus ride) we've taken Rte. 2 without incident. Third, I-80/90 is Toll, if I'm not mistaken. How much toll between I-280 and the 110/6A exit? And finally, how bad, if any, is the construction in Ohio? Is 2 1/2 hours a good estimate of time?

I went to CP the first saturday in June and I don't remember any construction between Detroit and the Ohio border. I always take route 2 going to CP and the turnpike home. The toll was $1.80 if I remember correctly. The construction around the drawbridge was not bad at all. No traffic backups.

I live at Telegraph and Square Lake in Michigan and it took around 2 hours from my house to the season pass center at CP.

Check the mdot website (google mdot) for construction. I know there's quite a bit being done this weekend in the detroit area, I just don't know how much will affect your route.
I agree with Scotty, take the turnpike time wise I think they're about equal, but the two lanes and no opposing traffic gives me better peace of mind when I'm driving.
Besides, if you can't afford 1.80, you shouldn't be going to the point in the first place.

I live in Southfield MI and visit the point often. I always take the Southfield freeway, to Southfield road, to I - 75, to I - 280, to the 80/90 then exit at exit number 118, which is hwy 250. I have made the trip many times in less than two hours. The turnpike costs $1.80 each direction and construction delays are minimal if any. The only construction issues I have run into this season is on the return trip on I - 75. Around the 30 or 40 mile marker they tend to close a bunch of lanes at night and it can cause a large backup.

I come from the Lansing area, and I usually take 96 east, then hit 23 south, then I hit Rte. 2 in Toledo and head straight to CP. It seems pretty fast, and it's a more scenic route.

When I lived in East Lansing I always took Route 2.

I came through Detroit on Southbound 75 just a few days ago, construction didn't seem to be too bad. I didn't see nearly as many orange barrels as we have here in Toledo. The turnpike from I-280 to Rt. 4 is $1.55 one way. I'd imagine the $1.80 number that was previosly given for exiting on Rt. 250 is probably correct, although I've never taken that way myself. Rt. 2 is a faster (unless you're behind a lot of trucks), cheaper, and more scenic route than the turnpike though.

I concur with Wingnut, we live 2 miles north of him and make it there in 2 hours on avg. Especially on Sunday mornings when you can FLY down I-275 to I-75 at 6:00 am. :-)

We almost always take RT2 from Toledo,it saves us about ten minutes. There putting in A few tunring lanes on RT2, but it don't seem to effect the weekend traffic. The turnpike is maybe better, less likely to get stuck in slow moving traffic. But theres no need togo to SR250 take RT4 and follow Wiggum. And accidents happen on the turnpike too. I've always taken RT.2 to CP. It's about 3 hours from my friends house (where we always leave) to CP. RT.2 just seems faster and more fun. Plus, you get to go by the Happy Hooker!

You have bullet proof glass if your driving through Detroit right??? I'm sure if you drive though during a Tiger's game you won't have any problems because everyone will be asleep.

That was harsh Dan, very harsh :-P ;) Besides, they usually only shoot the ones without bulletproof glass.

Actually, MiLLeNNiuMRiDeR, as my friend's mother (a lifetime metro Detroit resident) said once to her adult daughter (who works downtown in the Detroit Medical Center), "Don't worry, dear, they're only shooting children in Detroit these days."
