Frightzones in the rain

Morté615's avatar

For anyone who went to Halloweekends on Friday, how did the Frightzones do in the rain, were they muddy, was the fog running, were they even open?

I am planning on stopping in tonight after work but it is supposed to rain all night again, and I am curious about how well the Frightzones operate in the rain.

My guess, from previous experience, is that you'll be disappointed.

Everything was open and running with fog and lights, I hear Terror Island was a little muddy. Fright zone was a bit wet, and a lot of the new screamsters were still working out how to scare. It felt slow but I think that was more because there were very few guests in the park.

Friday night was awesome, probably one of the best nights I've ever had at Halloweekends. And yeah it was very slow, but when its been raining all day and friday nights don't draw as big a crowd what would one expect. But it actually worked out for those of us who went, it never rained the whole time at Cedar Point which I couldn't figure out. Rained the whole way there from Toledo, and rained the whole way back. Anyways, all the Frightzones were great and Terror Island wasn't muddy. The path you walk on isn't dirt, not sure what it is.

I will be out there in a few hours. I just have to finish up at work. I will have my pointbuzz pin on. I hope the rain holds off. But, it looks like it will be pretty wet. At least it will be slow. Maybe we can catch a few coasters in between the raindrops.

Peace, Mikey

Yeah I have a season pass so I can make it down whenever but I am really interested to see the new houses and scare zones so was considering on heading down after work around 9. Still think I may make it down and even if it does rain, hey at least I can always go back another time :)

yea we were open in the rain, the fog was holding well on friday due to it being so muggy and calm. On saturday it was a little windy were I was at so it wasnt as foggy. But as stated before it was opening weekend and it will only get better and better. There was a major improvment from friday night to saturday night so hopefully the trend will continue.

I was there saturday and the night turned out great! All the fog was thick when I was in the zones and held pretty well. It was really great how the park was not crowded at all even at the end of the night when I thought it would get a lot busier. The longest wait we did was corn stalkers, however. The fog from terror island made a good ride on MF, by the way:)

Both Friday and Saturday got very muggy. Friday the crowd was very sparse. Too sparse for the walk throughs IMO. The screamsters were looking for anyone to scare at times. The crowds were so thin sometimes the screamsters stood out even though they tried to hide. Soon after it opened Friday my family were the only people in sight on Terror Island. Saturday the crowd was larger, but still small for HW. Of course the weather started out terrible and it's still early.

Terror Island's path was not muddy, though if you left the path it was a little muddy. They had people with squeegies in Fright Zone getting rid of puddles before that opened Saturday.

Carn Evil seems better in it's new more compact location. You get scared more often. The old location was too wide. You sometimes had to to looking for a monster.

Cornstalkers was good too. Friday there was no line early. Saturday it was 45 minutes at about 9pm. We didn't wait.

To me the walk throughs were better on Saturday. I think the larger crowd helped.

Just to clarify, it really depends on what kind of rain and how much we have as to whether we go out. In my 5 years of Screamsters we've only had one night totally rained out, and that was in 2004. If it is raining hard we will close down or open late. We got lucky this past weekend and the rain mostly held off.

I was there for that Saturday night that you're talking about. It drizzled all day until about 5 pm and then things deteriorated.

Ralph, I see that you are the Team Leader of Terror Island and btw, it was awesome on friday night. But before then, I had never been on the island and it was a lot bigger then I had orginally pictured it being. I'm sure you have seen it during the day time as well and have a much greater perspective, what is your opinion for the future of the island in coming years?

I suspect Terror Island will be coming back for years to come, but how would I know anything about the future? There is a decent amount of land back there, but who knows if the park will ever develop it or not.

Tomorrow is pretty much supposed to rain the whole time. If it rains the whole night, will the scare zones even be open?

Well have to see, we dont make the decisions management does. Its all about safety

I am going to state the obvious and say, bring a poncho.

Poncho Smoncho.

2 Hoodies, and a couple pairs of dry jeans back at the hotel is all you need. Make sure to hang your stuff up at night so it can dry by the next morning.

Bring a poncho. Better to have a $2 poncho from Target and not need it, than to need it and have to spend (just a guess) $50 on the same poncho in the park. ;)

On Sunday during opening weekend when it was pouring all day we went to Meijer and bought 19 dollar full rainsuits. They made us look like complete tools, but they worked great and kept us completely dry. Good times!

You may have looked like a "tool" but I, on the other hand, was very stylish in my Target rain suit. :)
