Free Halloweekends Admission with Season Pass Purchase

Tip's avatar

"Purchase your 2008 Cedar Point Season Pass or 2008 Cedar Fair Platinum Pass online or at the park and you'll receive one (1) complimentary ticket valid for admission during the last remaining days of the 2007 season!"

Not too shabby. I've been planning on a Platinum Pass anyway, and this gives me an excuse for another Halloweekends trip to the Point. You still get the free VIP jacket with this deal, too.

What if we already purchased our pass...are we still eligible? =\

^I would call. If not, you're always able to return your pass before its first use.

This is a great deal.

$42.95 - One 2007 park admission
$39.99 - VIP Jacket

Those two things cost $82.94. So a regular season pass now only cost $22.01. The platinum pass is even better deal if you factor in the cost of Point Perks (Joe Cool Club) and parking. *** Edited 10/20/2007 1:14:27 AM UTC by Gomez***

Say I purchase my Pass on Sunday.
Could someone going with me use the Ticket that they give me, or is it only valid for the person who purchases the Pass?

Does anyone know this?

Ohh that's a good question. If that's the case I'll be able to help my friend out. I'm going to give the park a call next week to find out.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

It's just a regular single day ticket, and anyone can use it. Also, if you already purchased your pass (either online or at the park), take your voucher to the season pass center to pick up your free ticket.

Also, the jackets are in, they can be picked up at the Season Pass center.

They also put an end to the contemptible thought that they might replace the Peanuts characters as the e-mail said:

"A Cedar Point Season Pass is your ticket to a whole summer of fun in 2008! With a season pass, you can spend your summer riding Maverick, the coaster everyone is raving about, clapping to the award-winning live shows, hugging Snoopy, relaxing on the beautiful Cedar Point Beach or taking in the colorful lights of Cedar Point at night. "

Also shows that they do indeed, make money from their season pass holders as I don't think they would be offering incentives if they didn't want to encourage people to buy season passes.

What a nice perk for those bringing guests this weekend.

This is the single most stupid thing they could possibly have done. After bragging in last quarter's results about how they reduced comp tickets by 150,000 in the Paramount Parks, they do this. And why? They're setting attendance records and season pass sales are obviously very brisk given the line out the door. Why give away the gate?

In fact, they're essentially giving it away twice. What do you think all of these current pass holders are doing when they get those comps? They're standing outside selling them for whatever they can get.

Stupid.

^^ I would agree there is a percentage of people doing that. But, I would also say that there is a percentage of current pass holders who will use the ticket to bring a friend or family member on their next trip. What would really be silly is if they are still giving them away on closing day. But, I guess they would almost have too because some non-passholders could be planning to use this opportunity to get a pass for next year and get a free trip to the park this year.

It's mostly resale. It's not well known that the ticket is even available. You can literally stand outside the pass office and watch it happen. And even if it is being used by people bringing friends, why? The place has been crowded enough without adding freeloaders.

Yeah, I don't understand either.

Maybe it's a non-issue for them? Maybe it's also helping sell season passes because they have the marketing available to them as "get something free if you buy now" angle? I'd be willing to be most of these free passes don't even get used. If they do, is it really a big deal? They're getting the $140 pass sold a season early.

I think there's a big difference between thousands of comp tickets that are valid for an entire season and maybe a couple hundred comp tickets that are good for like four days.

djDaemon's avatar

Yeah, but they're not getting as much for the season pass - it's more expensive after November 11.

And how could it be a non-issue? They're throwing money away at a time when people are throwing it at them by the fistfuls. That doesn't make any sense.

And I sincerely doubt there would be a measurable impact from this deal, given they announced it with only 2 weekends to go.

Brandon

All I'm saying is they must have some data that supports selling season passes at the end of a season when people are thinking about the parks versus later when they cost more. Maybe season pass sales are less brisk at the beginning of the season? So, if they can give the appearance that people are getting something else for "free", they're more likely to drop cash on the season pass that they wouldn't have done otherwise?

There must be some reason they're "giving away" jackets and single-day passes.

Like you said, the deal was just announced and is only good for like two weekends. So, I really don't see a massive impact on loss of ticket sales for them.

djDaemon's avatar

But there's still a loss, at a time when they need absolutely no help getting folks in the gate. I don't know how you'd find data to deny that fact.

Brandon

Would it be that they want people to buy passes for next year comes around and then they are guaranteed that they'll come a couple times next season and buy food, drinks, etc.

Well, me, my wife and my sister all have 2007 passes, we are planning to buy ours this weekend. We were trying to talk my brother into going with us, and we'd just give him the tickets, so it wouldn't cost him anything. He didn't want to go, but that's over 100 bucks they'd have lost, and we were going to buy Season Passes anyway.

Goodbye MrScott

John

So, they're just morons who thought they'd lose money on purpose? Come on. They obviously have some reason for doing it.

They're "losing money" on the jackets too. So, why offer those? Maybe because it entices some people to buy the pass? It's the same for the "free" 2007 tickets.
