I was just sitting here thinking about something and maybe it has been posted before. I was just wondering if the point has ever had any floods. I mean it is surounded by water on 3 sides, so you think it would have flooded before, but I never recall hearing of one. I was just wondering if anyone here ever recalls hearing about a flood at Cedar Point.

I had heard of one that closed CP for three days. But it might just have been a story.

I think it was the storm of '69 on July fourth that flooded the causeway so people were stranded on Point for the night (gee what a terrible thing:) ) I also heard stories on how Camper Village floods once in a while and that is why they do not allow tents. Now I don't know if it is true or not.

Keep in mind that large lakes like Erie don't flood all that often. I would go as far as to say that they don't flood at all. It would take a lot of rain to raise Lake Erie up an inch let alone enough to flood the point. But that is just my reaction.
Camper Village floods at least once a year. One year it was so high that I did not want to drive my truck through it.
All of the drains in the Village lead out to the lake/bay. As the lake an bay rise, it comes up the drains and into the campground.
The other thing that makes it bad is a northeaster' wind. The lake literally blows towards Sandusky and the water is deeper on the south end than the north end. First Street and the Bayside apartments flood on a pretty much yearly basis.
If you go to work at CP early in the season, request the 2nd or 3rd floor!
Lake Erie floods Ontario’s shores quite often. When there is a strong wind from the west, the water is “pushed” towards the east. When the wind stops the water flows back to the lowest point. Then the west side is higher than the east and it rocks back and forth.
Just picture Lake Erie as huge bathtub. J
I hope the L.E.M. (Lake Erie Monster) never attacks Cedar Point.
CP use to (and may still have ) water problems in the Marina and down by the Causeway Apartments (the employee housing you drive right pat on your way in). The winds on Lake Erie (northeaster) blow the water level from the west to the east. The water level in Toledo will drop and it will rise in Buffalo. I know the Marina Steakhouse has had flood problems and a few employees have had to work a night shift to be sure to fend off water if it started to rise.
I remember a few years back our trip to the point. It was a beautiful day when all of a sudden it became storming. In just a matter of a few seconds it went from a bright and sunny day to a massive storm, there were even funnel clouds forming directly above us. Anyway, I recall parts of the park flooding to the level of my knee as we attempted to rush toward the front of the park. It was surely a unique experience seeing that the rain was coming in horizontally much of the time and I had thrown out my knee the day before (nothing stops a trip to the point) and I couldn't walk... I had to be carried through the water after awhile. Memories, yes, they are great!!!

Xopher, I recall my Uncle saying something about that.
Anyway, while the park may flood for a few minutes at a time, it will take a LOT of rain to truly flood the park being near Lake Erie. My local newspaper said that Lake Huron is down really low and is lacking something like 4.8 Trillion gallons of water.
So lets say for Lake Erie to raise 1 foot, it might take, say 1 Trillion gallons of water. Not likely in any one storm. (Note: Lake effect rain doesn't count)
