First visit to Cedar.Suggestions?

I am a Florida resident coming to Cedar point for the first time in July. In the past few years got some medical news that has made me appreciate life and time with my wife and 16 yr old daughter a bit more. Soooooo ..I am trying to fulfill a five year desire to see cedar and hope to really make it a good experience. I only have two days to really see the parkand ride. i have read some tips on how to get in more rides etc. here(great site by the way, employee lounge is interesting*s*). need suggestions for breakfast buffets/restaurants in area, directions from Cleveland to Sandusky(furthest north I've ever ventured). Daughter and I will be fine with rides, wife is scared of heights so she needs something to do in the park.Which are the best shows? I have also read the first day reviews. Sounded kind of rough! realistically, think most of the bugs will be out of the rides by July?..Will keep up with this site, july 6th I'll be there ..the Buccaneers jersey will be hard to miss*s* thanks for any help! Love coasters and the thrill!

First of all: Sthay at a Hotel on Point. You get into the park a 1/2 hour early that way.

Two days is PEFECT for a trip to CP.

Wear suscreen.

From Cleveland: Just take I-90 to Ohio Route 2, and follow the signs to Sandusky/Cedar Point.

As for other things to do: There are a few wineries around the area, Put-inBay, and the Carusel Museam in Sandusky.

T.G.I Fridays is my favorite restaurant in Cedar Point, at the Hotel Breakers. I suggest staying at the Hotel Breakers. Your wife will have plenty to do. Extreme Splash and Hot Summer Lights are my favorite shows.

I actually think the Sandcastle Suites are really nice, but it all depends on whether you like a large, busy hotel (Breakers) or a smaller setting (Sandcastle Suites). Extreme Splash is a great show, but you can't go wrong seeing any of them. All of the shows are really great. It's impossible to say whether the bugs will be out the rides or not because the current problems could be fixed by July, but other problems can arise. In any event, you'll have a great time.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Thanks for the tips! I already have hotel reservations though..Comfort Inn on Milan rd..a time share exchange thing..made it a little easier to swing the trip..that and free plane tickets(it's good to be bumped!). Sounded like a decent place to stay. Anyway...the dive show does sound good and all of the coasters are more extreme it seems than any I have been on to date(exceptions being Shiekra,Hulk, and Kraken) Have liked all the TGIFriday's I've been to down here..glad there is one available. Hear cotton candy is only a quarter this year..I timed this right! I have a question about parking.. are there trams to the park from the lots? On a busy night, how long does it take to get out of the park? Wife wonders about shade and places to sit(other than food stands). Some parks have misters in the wait lines, does cedar? I know...this is probably uninteresting to somebody who lives there/been there a million times, but shouldn't hurt to ask. Helps to know something about what to expect before going.

Granted I don't think there will be that much of a change except for the liquid fire (?) additions, but how can a show that hasn't technically debuted yet be a favorite?

There are no trams, so its up to you to get to and from your car. It can take a while depending on where you parked. I recommend parking in the Soak City lot, just tell the person in the toll booth you are going to soak city and they'll point you in the right direction. You'll be closer to Magnum when you enter, and already on the main road when you exit. Plus, if you stay for the laser show, take your sweet time strolling through the park. Everyone else is leaving too, so you'll just be hurrying to wait in your car.

There are misters in the major ride lines. They definitely help break the heat.

There is plenty of shade on the Frontier trail, and plenty of benches throughout the park. One of the best places for people watching is the benches right under the corkscrew. You can also find shade in the rest of the park, as there are trees scattered about in some of the "concrete jungles".

Good luck on your trip. One last suggestion, cancel the Comfort Inn and stay on Point. It'll make the vacation that much more relaxing.

Goodbye MrScott

First question: There aren't any trams that I know of, but there is only one main parking lot, and it is adjacent to the park, so the walk (even from the back) isn't bad at all. But, I could be wrong and there could be trams...but like I said, it's not too bad of a walk, even from the deepest of parking spots.

Question two: I would say "not long," meaning no more than 15 minutes. CP is pretty efficient on most nights about getting people off of their property.

Question three: All I have to say is: Frontiertown and Frontier Trail. These areas offer a lot of foliage, and therefore, a lot of shade. So, finding shade should be a non issue for your wife.

Question four: Yes, CP has misters in the lines for the bigger rides. Magnum, TTD, MF, and WT has them. I think that might be it, but it's enough "to get the job done."

Last public train of 2005 on MF!

thanks jugg! I've seen the Soak City lot recommendation a few times so will definitely do that. I'll probably have to stick with the comfort Inn though I'd love the early entrance aspect of staying on point. The hotel will basically be a place to plop. If I have a second trip in the near future, will probably stay at the park though. The laser show can wait till the last night I'm there....I want to get in as many rides/shows as possible . I suspect the laser show is visible from some rides anyway.I'll be there a Friday,Sat and Sunday. Of the three ,which two should be the least busy? there seems to be a general affection for the park from most people posting here..and followings for different rides. That says something good about Cedar Point.

Sunday most definitely will be least busiest, followed by Friday, Saturday being most busy.

There is more to Cedar Point than big scary rides. Your wife will have more things to do then she can handle! First off, Cedar Point isn't asphalt and steel. It's a very beautiful park, and sometimes it's just nice to stroll around Frontier Trail or plant yourself on a bench and rest. There are a variety of shows, including, my favorite, Snoopy's Summer Vacation. There are also shows in serveral of the restaraunts in Frontier Town, which play while you eat.

Secondly, I would agree with JuggaLotus. Cancel your reservation at Comfort Inn. The Breakers Express is one of the cheapest hotels in the area, and it's a Cedar Point resort. And there's more to the resorts then just getting into the park early. You get 2 Cedar Point tickets, 2 nights accomodations, 2 Cedar Point Starlight tickets, a 10% discount at specified restaraunts during your stay, 8 Express breakfast coupons, 2 Soak City coupons: Buy one All-Day ticket, get one free, and a Cedar Point parking voucher. And this is only the minimum package, at the cheapest resort. The packages at other CP resorts are about 2 times that size. All in all, it saves you about 24 truckloads of money. It's much more than just a place to plop.

If you can see the laser show from the ride, the ride's closed. This is for saftey reasons, since it is a laser show.

I agree with ttdboy111, Sunday is certainly the least busy, followed, by a lot, Friday, and Saturdays in July are absolutely PACKED.

The rides will have the bugs worked out of them by July. In fact, they should have them all out in a couple weeks. It's been a long offseason, that's all.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your time at the Point!

Thanks coaster! The park sounds nice as does the hotel but probably gonna be stuck with the hotel I've got. Will have to figure out admission prices, room rates ,etc.before I really consider a change. How are Mondays? would it probably be better to try to change plane/hotel reservations while there's still a chance and push back a day? also..if you get a two day ticket..do they have to be together or can you split it up? I've seen that Skyhawk is already back up and TTD from what I've seen here is working better so I'm not too worried about something being down on a given day. I'll ride whatever is available..and LOVE it. Rain would be a bummer but no way to control that.

Rain is not a "bummer" if you are staying on Point. You just head back to your cabin/cottage/room and wait it out. Then head back to a nearly empty park. :)

mr scott..so rains don't typically last all day in July there? Somehow I gotta work Breakers into the budget*s*

The best way to go to Cedar point is stay in the Breakers i'm 14 and have stayed there 7 times plus twice in Light House Point.Being able to get in a half hour early is awsome but i think it only applies to certain rides.....but hope you have fun!

Soak city's a great way to cool off

Ryan's has buffets all the time and is located on Route 250. Pretty busy though.

East of Chicago Pizza is located on the causeway and is a great value on your way home. They have a pizza buffet, but get crowded immediately after close.

Park in the back, near Gemini and enter through the resort gate, rather then the main gate, and work your way forward. You can hit most of the rides in the rear of the park before the crowd gets there.

If 250 is too crowded try taking route 4 to Strub road, to Remington Road to Cleveland road. This is the "back way" to avoid traffic on weekends.

No, fatfish1, they don't. But I don't go in July anymore because of the crowds. I only go in May and/or September/October.

PS: Lighthouse Point is a better value (and a better time) than Breakers. ;)

Light House Point is great.

Ryan's Family restaurant has an amazing breakfast buffet, it is on 5309 Milan road. I went there last year and am making it a point to go eat there again this year. Crackerbarrel is also a really good breakfast place, also on Milan Road.

Mondays are generally pretty good, snce many people have full-time Mon-Fri jobs. Although in July, you just never know.
