I'll be making my first ever trip to CP in October and I've found these boards to be helpful in learning about the park.
I really want to ride TTD but am nervous about it. It's not the height that bothers me, but rather the take-off. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on their experiences.
The only comparable coaster I've been on is Storm Runner at Hershey Park. When that launched, I felt like I was kicked in the gut and unable to breathe. That's why I'm nervous about TTD. I can't even begin to imagine how it would feel. I've always loved coasters but I think as I've gotten older (I'm 29) my tolerance level has changed.
Storm Runner's got faster acceleration than Dragster, so you should be OK.
I used to get that feeling in launched rides, much the same as I used to get it on first drops. I don't get it anymore on anything, except for certain drop rides, Iron Dragon and sometimes Wildcat.
I still get it everytime. And when I stop getting that is when I stop riding. That feeling is what keeps me addicted.

this summer was my first time going to CP and I was also a little nervous. I had also gone on stormrunner beroe and was scared of the acceleration too but once I went on it I thought that storm runner has a very different feeling of being launched.
So don't judge TTD using the acceleration feeling from stormrunner because I think you will like it a lot more.
Wow, I must say I'm surprised. I would have thought that TTD would have given more of an intense feeling in the gut. Do TTD and Kingda Ka compare on that feeling? My cousin, who feels that "kick in the stomach" on Storm Runner didn't feel it on KK. She's never been on TTD tough.
TTD's most definitely fast, and it feels like it's never going to slow down. It most certainly has a kick to it, but it's nothing like a smaller version, such as XCelerator.
In fact, I prefer XCelerator's launch to TTD's - I prefer XCelerator as an overall ride, to be honest. The launch on that is 0-80 in just over 2 seconds.
I got my first ride on it in may, and i was very nervous about the launch, not the height or anything. Its honestly nothing to be scared of at all. Nothing but pure fun, and no matter how nervous you are you really should ride it!!
My first time on TTD, I had the wind kicked out of me on the start of the launch because you don't epect it to be that fast. It's not the acceleration, it's the speed. Storm Runner is considered a baby ride to me now :) When I was at Hershey, I ran into a group of first timers for Storm Runner and they asked what i thought of the ride. I said it's a baby ride compared to Top Thrill Dragster. They were like what's that? I said it's 240 feet taller and 48 MPH faster than this ride. They looked at me like I was crazy lol
1) Maverick 2) Millennium Force 3) Top Thrill Dragster
Hold your breath. Sounds silly but it works for me. TTD gives quite an intense sensation to your stomach on the launch. I personally love it, but I think holding your breath helps. As soon as the first yellow light comes on, take a deep breath and hold it.
TTD always gives me that feeling of my stomach being left at the launch pad and i don't get it back until its over! But thats one of the best parts of the ride, its such an amazing experienece and you shouldn't even think about NOT riding it! :) The first time i rode it i put my hands up and couldn't get them back down, i wanted to hold on to something because the "lost stomach" feeling was so intense, so i grabbed the back of the seat, it was quite a halarious pic, if only had had the 12 bucks at the time to get that pic. Don't worry about it at all, you'll love it! When you get to Cedar Point go straight for TTD so you don't have to much time to think about it, other than the wait time.

I remember my first time, and the most nerve-racking part was sitting in the launch position. The sign that said "Keep arms down, head back, and hold on tight" seemed to be stuck for 30 seconds. So if you are going to hold your breath, wait until the first yellow light comes on. Also, if you have a friend or parent that came with you to the park, but didn't want to ride TTD, tell them to stand next to the launching position. They will be down to your right and will will probably try to make you nervous, which makes it even more exciting. *** Edited 9/29/2006 11:31:29 PM UTC by davey420*** *** Edited 9/29/2006 11:32:00 PM UTC by davey420***
As long as 120mph in 4 seconds is considered fast, TTD will always be my favorite. The launch is the best part of the ride. The tower isn't even necessary for me.

So, in other words, you wouldn't have a problem flying off the end of a track at 120 mph? ;)

That would be quite the rush, but not exactly what I meant. More like launching 120mph and stopping right away wouldn't be that bad.

That's my technique as well. It really does seem to help.

Oh come on, you and I know it's not 4 seconds.:)
But yeah Storm runner has a faster acceleration at 36 MPH PS compared to Dragsters 32.4 MPH PS (3.7 seconds not 4).
As long as TTD is fast and tall......HECK as long as it's there and is Top Thrill Dragster, it will always be my all-time favorite.
All in all JPiccolo, you have nothing to worry about. Dragster is a great, smooth ride(as is Millennium) and you'll love it. Just hit it first and you wont regret it. If you have any futher question about it, dont hesitate to aske either me or Gomez, we're the biggest TTD fans on PB:).

Quoted so that when CP eventually builds something taller/faster/more phallic (or shorter in duration, if that's what you like about it), I can laugh at you. :)
