Fireworks

What are the Point's fireworks like for the 4th? The 4th is my favorite holiday (other than everyone's favorite - Christmas) and I get real picky about my fireworks. My girlfriend and I are trying to decide where to go and I suggested since we both have passes, just go hang out in the park (not really expect to ride anything) for a few hours, and watch the Point's fireworks. If anyone has seen Pittsburgh's 4th display or the Pirate game fireworks, those are the kind I consider "worth the trip". Can anyone help?

Budget a couple of hours to get out of the park too, because it's pretty insane. We were there in 98 or 99 and not only was the park busy (to be expected), but the Soak City lot was full and there were a ton of people there just to see the fireworks. It was a total zoo.

But the show usually is pretty good. :)

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

I would recommend for an awsome fire works display Coast Guard City USA(aka Grand Haven Michigan) there fireworks are usually, and literatly ground shaking. Better yet for the best fireworks display go during Coast Guard Festival. But thats off topic, ive always wanted to go to the point on 4th of july, prolly a zoo though

It's one of the better shows in the region and is produced by one of the top fireworks companies in the country. I think Zambelli does the Pirates' games as well. If you're from Pittsburgh, you may be familiar with the huge show in State College. CP's show isn't that big, but it is worth the trip.

Word of advice, repeat after me: "I will NOT park in the Soak City parking lot." As odd as it may sound, you might just be better off parking at the back of the main lot ... depending on when you leave.

While it is a better show, last year's was not that great, but I am sure they have planned for Wicked Twister and wind this year...

"What time does the 10 pm laser show start?"

If you check out C.P.'s Resorts reservation page, you will find out that there is "Nothing" available for July 4th. They are completely booked. You can bet that it's going to be busy!

Every time I'm there, C.P. has that electronic banner over the ticket sales booths that occasionally proclaimed something like: "Cedar Point Resorts...Rooms Available..." I wonder if it will say that on July 4th?

Last year the fireworks were ok but not great.
Last year there was a big delay of the fireworks display after about 15 minutes because the debris was blowing back into the park.We left before they resumed. However, we had parked in the Soak City lot as we always do when we spend the day at the park, and Gemini is exactly right! It took us 45 minutes to get out to the causeway. Our friends that stayed until the end didn't get out of the lot until after 1 AM. Never again - unless I am spending the night at one of the resorts.

I bet even getting back into the resorts is a bottleneck! Think about it...2,000 people going through maybe 10 doors at ONE hotel...sounds pretty bad...

The way to handle parking in soak city lot is easy

Get in a very long line(i used MF in 2000) and by the time you get that late night ride in, the only people left are people getting off that ride ,you have to be towards the end of that line though, youll be able to see from MF just how bad the traffic is as it sits on peremiter road.

The problem with the Soak City lot was that there was no plan to empty the lot. It was a free-for-all and ended up being a real mess. The main lot had been empty for some time - the only reason it was bad was because there was no 'escape' plan. I understand there's only one way in and one way out, but there must be a better solution than every car for itself. Here is my trip report from last year.

Downtown Detroit has a very good firework display. They have three barges in the Detroit River that shoot off the fireworks. If any of you saw the Detroit fireworks and the CP fireworks what one would be better?

Definitely the Freedom Festival is better, but Detroit and Windsor share the cost and can make it spectacular. Fireworks timed and set to music generally get high marks from me.

CP's fireworks shows are very good, although being two hours away, making it a one day thing is draining simply because of the crowds. When we stayed on Point, it was wonderful because we could lay low in the room when the crowds at the park were too much, and didn't have to deal with traffic when they were over.
