HEY RIDERS! Coming to the park on Tuesday (8/6)? We need some riders to tackle a few coasters for a film shoot from approx. 11am - 2pm.
If you'd like to help out, email us and we'll get back to you with details if chosen.

Whatever network or institution that wants to film must have limited availability and/or a need to film during that time-frame, and the park has agreed that the temporary (and unnecessary) negativity a small fraction of guests will experience is worth the payoff.
That's a four-hour window of time to film on a few coasters, so that means nothing will be off-limits for very long.
Having been on the filming end once-upon-a-time, the only time we could film was during operating hours. The sun came up the next morning.
I mean...barely...but it eventually rose.

Maybe that is the case. Maybe it isn’t. Of all of the film shoots I have worked during my 6 years at the park, they were early in the morning before guests arrived or during a week day in September.
I understand the 4 hour window isn’t that long (and perhaps that’s why they chose to do this on a Tuesday). But risking any of the negativity seems a bit silly when it’s avoidable. Not to mention, I’m curious what the “pay off” is.
For us, there was no option, and the park (thankfully) obliged. And this was during Halloweekends. I guess the pay-off would be whatever media is produced from the filming. For example, if a nationally-broadcast program wants to film a bit for x amount of hours, isn't that worth it? You get to have Cedar Point blasted into homes nationwide at no charge...other than a handful of guests that might have to come back to the ride they wanted to ride a little bit later in the day.
Like you said, it's a Tuesday (even though it's August). Pretty safe.
I would certainly assume that the park would prefer these to take place during off-hours (like you experienced)...but that's just not realistic all the time.

I don't know. I saw some complaining on the Faceboooks the other daaaay about coaster shoots hiring models that "can't ride more than 2 or 3 times without having to fix their hair and makeup" and something about how they should use enthusiasts because they are genuinely happy to be riding and can handle numerous rides without having to stop.
So, maybe it was brought on by someone's experience in not getting "ERT" for this.
