Anyone know what the deal is with the old ferry boats they used a few seasons back to ferry guests from the ride side to the water side before the bridge was put in?
I noticed they are both just sitting in a far corner of the lake (been to the park almost a dozen times this season and they haven't moved). Seems like a waste if they are just going to let them sink to the bottom or rot away like the old water park.
I would assume the lake freezes over in the winter... and if so, did the ferry boats just freeze up in the ice as well -- or do they take them out for the winter and then set them back in to be idle all summer.
Somewhat off topic... it makes me long for the old days of GLP when I was a kid and they had the boat ride (like at CP) where you got shot at and saw old west towns, etc...
Only thing i can figure is that it was part of cost cutting they have been doing. They dont need them anymore anyway since you can get over to the other side on the boardwalk. They didnt hold alot of people on the boats and they looked to be getting real old. I was at the park in 06 and they wasnt using them at all. I am thinking they may be doing all this cost cutting on removing and not using all this high maintance stuff cause they are making room for bigger and better rides or coasters. One big major coaster that is over 200 ft would make the park famous again and bring in alot more people. They have the room and Cedar Fair has the money. They just need to put it in.
I emailed GL regarding this last year. In a nutshell, they told me the cost of operating these boats was too high.
I actually miss those boats. Not everyone wants to walk across the (long) floating bridge in the hot sun. I didn't mind taking a ferry boat ride, even if it took a few extra minutes.
I did see them running them last summer one day when I was there. They were just being tested out by some uniformed men; they weren't being utilized for park guests.
<Shaking head> If only GL was the way it was back in 2005 (the year I first fell in love with it), I would be extremely happy!
