After the indignation has settled, I feel that most of the reaction to CP's decision to remove Fascination was not so much because they are removing it, but because of the timing of the announcement. In previous threads, a lot of people have said things like if they'd known, they'd have taken pictures or played one last game.
My husband had this idea to protest Johnny Rockets: I'm certainly not suggesting it as something we should band together and actually do, but it was so funny I couldn't resist! Every time you go by the building, go in and ask for $1s change (4 quarters). Don't order anything, just get the change and leave. Do you think they'd understand? I just thought it made a nice "nonviolent resistance" manuever. :)

It just makes me sick that I can no longer play Fascination ever again at Cedar Point. I refuse to step foot inside the place.
I am going to treat Johnny Rockets the same way employees at Bush Garden's Williamsburg treat Drachen Fire.....I will deny that its there.

What giant restaurant? Oh, you mean Coasters?
=)
That is a good idea CrystaKat. but you cant blame CP for removing the place they couldnt find replacment parts for the games. I as everyone else will miss Fasination but you should look at the brighter side of things. With a new resterant there is a lower chance of not waiting in line for food. Well thats just my thought on it you do as you please. :)

I agree entirely with CrystalKat's and Dan's comments. Timing being everything, it's almost not surprising they removed the game like they did--perhaps expecting a major backlash of complaints and "how could you?"s from loyal park guests like the ones that inhabit these boards. The way they did it, it's a "fete d'complete" (apologies to anyone who actually knows French), and the park doesn't need to listen to anyone (and subsequently ignore them) because the die had already been cast.
Shorter lines, Nick? I doubt it.
I wonder how much investigation/imagination (to "upgrade" the equipment)/problem-solving went into the resolution of Fascination's maintenance woes. I have a gut feeling it's actually very little, given the expected "financial bonanza" that is replacing it. There are still other Fascination parlors in existence from coast to coast (not that many, but they're there)--some being actual businesses and not insulated from real-world business woes by residing in an amusement park setting. These operations are still around and surely must have dealt with the same issues that CP apparently cannot, did not, and would not want to address. It's appalling.
I will ignore and boycott Johnny Rockets.
I will not spend any money on games at Cedar Point (the only game I ever played was Fascination because it was the only one I ever felt was worth the money--$2 lasted for minutes, not seconds).
I am seriously considering boycotting all Cedar Point food operations--the stuff, like all in-park food regardless of location, is overpriced and generally unhealthy anyway. Yes, it will be an inconvenience to lug a cooler around and go to the front of the park to eat, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make at this time.
Though I doubt this would happen, I hope the entire Johnny Rockets venture at CP FAILS--MISERABLY, and that Johnny Rockets pulls out (seems like an appropriate term, no?) after its initial contract. Can't you just see ANOTHER lovely gift store in one of the park's prime locations?

I think there have been many better things that have been removed for much worse replacements. The more food available at Cedar Point, the better.
Well I guess Skee Ball will have to replace Fascination as the game of choice, which isn't a bad thing.

The prizes aren't as good, but it still gives us something to do on a rainy afternoon.

It may not be a bad thing, Dan, but it's not a good thing, either and--for me--does not serve as any type of adequate substitute or replacement. IMHO there's no thrill in victory in skeeball because you've not really beaten anyone when you "win". The "race" aspect of Fascination was one of the things I liked best about it.
The mention of skeeball made me think of something--balls drop through holes, activating sensors which trigger other electronic devices (in skeeball's case, a scoreboard as oppososed to a light on a playing field like in Fascination)...other than the "race" aspect of the game (The calculation of a win and the immediate disarming of other tables), how do Fascination and skeeball really differ in terms of their electronic configuration?

I don't think they differ much at all. I always find a thrill in winning in Skee-Ball, Who doesn't?

I love Skee Ball! It is the best game at CP!

Who doesn't?
Those of us that don't win at Skeeball because it never goes into one of those stinking holes... At least Fascination had more holes! ;) Oh, I'll still play it because it is nice for a game or two, but it will never take the place of Fascination.

This might make us feel better...
A friend of mine checked in for pre-season employement at Cedar Point last week. She says the former Fascination building still sits as an empty shell. Very little work has gone on inside the building, thanks to the plumber's lock out/ painters strike/ Maintainence show of support.
At this point, "Johnny's (deep) Pockets" may not be ready for opening day. This, since so many other pre-season jobs at the park have been stalled because of the Maintainence situations.
maybe this should be under trip reports
She says Blue Streak's first drop and a few other hills have NO track, where carpenters were replacing aging wood.
Mantis and Millennium trains are still in the Breakers East parking lot. Mean Streak cars are still resting in their "winter beds" by the train station in Frontiertown. Only Raptor and 80% of Magnum are back on the track (and she said two Magnum cars looked like they were "stuck" together in the transfer track area).
Several circular rides (Wave Swinger, Witches Wheel, Calypso) are still in pieces. The Antique Cars are resting in the Grand Prix Raceway track area.
And many park structures are still boarded up.

I honestly could care less. They said it was cost prohibitive to maintain the game. That's life. I understand the historical significance of the game, I really do, but the real world has financial implications that affect the way the park has to run its business.

CP NEVER said Johnny Rockets would be ready for Opening day. And its NOT going to be ready by opening day. Its probably not going to be ready till June or July.
I think you're underestimating the park. Why would they start pulling boards off of windows and from around Dodge 'Ems? It did snow a little today.
I've been in the park days before opening day and it looks like that. They always make it happen, and this will be like any other year. Anyone remember the first photos of Coasters and when they came out?

Working there the week before opening, you'd be amazed how much that park can get done in under 48 hours. There were sections of the Midway that were ripped up, no plants (flowers, shrubs, etc) were in the Midway gardens, no trash cans, rides still filthy, and yet it was all transformed by the weekend. Jeff is right, they'll get it done. If you doubt, just visit on opening day and find out!

I KNOW FOR A FACT that it won't be ready by opening day. They can do alot of work but getting a restarunt done in 30 days isn't one of them.
Getting back to the original thread, I enjoy Skee Ball also. It can never replace Fascination, but Skee Ball is a great game. I hope they upgrade the Skee Ball prizes this year with some of the more premium stuff they used to have at the Fascination game. I can't really get that excited about winning shot glasses or little plastic wallets. I got a DVD player at Fascination last year, and I'd like to see prizes like that for the remaining redemption games.
Good idea, Pete, that really was part of the draw for Fascination - the better prizes. It's been mentioned that Fascination coupons could still be redeemed, but I hope it's not for the corny midway type prizes. Not that I'm redeeming mine now anyway - they're too valuable as a souvenir!
