Fascination or Johnny Rockets?

For thrillman; Fascination is a cross between skeeball and bingo where you toss a ball up a chute and try to score points.
Pete,

You totally missed the point I was trying to make.

1).  CP makes a profit by providing entertainment to people.  They are not providing entertainment just to make the world a better place, they do it to make $$$$$.  They are not going to keep something at C.P. if it doesn't draw a crowd AND make profit.(Typically drawing a crowd = profit).  J.R. is packed all of the time and I am sure that it brings in a lot more money than Fascination.  The only people that will miss Fascination are people like me, who have been going to C.P. for ages.  New guests are probably much happier to have a new, clean place to eat in the park.  C.P. recognized that fact and capitalized on the more profitable option.

2).  Of course they have to provide quality entertainment to get people to come to the park.  None of us would go there if it wasn't one of our favorite places in the world.  I think that C.P.'s current focus is on making the experience better new visitors.  Unfortunately, what is good for new visitors is not always good for the people that have been going to C.P. for years.   To me, the little things at C.P. are what makes it special, but over the last few years many of them have left, ie. Fascination, BBQ Chicken behind the Big Wheel, the old man making the rubberband paddlewheel boats (he may have past away), beer being sold under the Sky Ride by the Corksrew :), the Sky Slide, the sinking burning boat on the old Western Cruise, lots of lemon chill guys, and many other things that I am sure you are all aware of.

The point of all of this is that for C.P. to remain special, they need to remember to pay attention to the little eclectic things that we are accustomed to.  Big fast rides are awesome, don't get me wrong...but C.P. has always been much more than that.

p.s.  A good thing about Johnny Rockets, at least they didn't make the place into a "Snoopy Burger".

I think I would have preferred that! :)

Rotunda,

Thanks for the clarification, I completely agree with your point. I've almost forgotten about the Corkscrew beer wagon! Anyone remember the totem pole by the west sky ride station?

I agree too, I remember when it seemed like CP only wanted to appeal to families.  Now it seems like they want only the extreme riders.  I may be an extreme rider, but I don't want to see a park with the biggest, baddest stuff. I want to see a good family park.  Right now, I don't really consider CP a family park.  So yeah, I guess even though I may be younger than most people on this site, I remember a lot fo the old stuff.  My favorite ride used to be the Mill race.  Mainly because it was a fixture in the park.  Choosing which line to stand in and then making faces at the people eating in the Silver Dollar.  I think Fascination was a fixture too.  I never went into it, but I miss it.

I think CP hoped Johnny Rocket's would appeal to those of us who grew up in that era.  The whole nostalgia thing for those of us who are now parents/grandparents who remember our younger days at CP.  Same with Coasters.  But the fact is younger people these days are not "entertained" by the same things we were as kids.  When I took my son into the museum to show him the CP *I* grew up with, he thought the rides were "boring".  And at close to 16, he thinks many of the "nostalgia" trends are worthless.  Sure, CP has taken away a lot of rides/games/eateries that I grew up with and was very nostalgic for.  I can't tell you how much I miss the BBQ chicken!  But look what they put in it's spot?  We just have to keep moving with the times.

Well you cant miss what you never knew was there. But then again, on my last visit, I didnt go into Johnny Rockets either. Therefore, I guess they could both go to hell. I'd be none the wiser....
