Fascination

What, exactly, is the object of this game? How is it played? Is it like a pinball game? Skeeball? I don't remember actually seeing it on my trip.

It's been bugging me... any info is appreciated!

The classic Fascination game that many enjoy today was added in 1955. The point of this 'game of chance' is to roll a series of balls into holes that connect to make straight or diagonal lines, much like BINGO. The first player to make a straight line is the winner of a Fascination coupon that can be redeemed for a prize.

Fascination is that big room that you most likely saw when you were walking down the main midway. Everyone is sitting on a stool in front of a slightly tilted game surface and rolling balls.

It's not a game of chance, it is a game of skill. This is because games of chance are not legal in Ohio. :)

--Dave Althoff, Jr.
How they ever convinced whomever they had to that Fascination was a "game of skill" over a "game of chance" I'll never know. It's pretty much impossible to aim for anything with the exception of the four corner squares thanks to the v-shaped bump located before the balls hit the playing surface proper--and even then, it's near impossible to hit those four holes over 50% of the time anyway!

Somewhat-related trivial fact: There used to be (and might still be for all I know--I found this place completely by accident in 1997 during a business trip while walking down Market Street) a "Fascination" parlor in San Francisco, where you played for money instead of coupons, complete with the "Travellite Double" feature operational and everything!

One key thing about Fascination: it's addictive! My mother loves Bingo, and hates rides, but she'd save all year to be able to play Fascination for 2 straight days when we went to CP. And now I play, albeit not NEARLY as much. It is great for kids, because even little kids understand "roll the balls" and since it only costs a quarter (less than half the video games nowadays!), why not let them play?

A great thing CP does too, the tickets are good forever -- you can redeem them any year, not just the year you win them. Keep saving up for those big prizes!

Geauga Lake (before SFO -- this would be 1997) had a Fascination game too, and you played for tickets, but it cost $.50. Anyone know if it's still there, out of curiosity?

Just a blink away from a NEW POLL!
Going back to the 'game of skill,' I personally do not think it is a game of skill. I worked there for about 3 weeks this past summer and it was obvious the people that knew what they were doing. There was a certain way they would roll the ball and it would almost always go where they wanted it. Fascination was a fun game to work at, but after complaining at least 20 times about the amount of flies and nothing getting done, that was reason enough to leave. They were gross.

Fascination is the game YOU came to Cedar Point to play....it's fun, it's easy, and it's . . . FASCINATING!

I think SFO still has a Fascination. I say 'I think' because everytime I've been there I see the tables and prizes, but the room is closed.

Indiana Beach has one.

Interesting... I'll have to take a look at Six Flags Ohio's (if it's still there and open) next year.

Is there someplace where there's a picture of Fascination, I forgot what it looked liked.
Look no farther than the gallery here.

Someone remind me to bring a camera to IB next time I go.

Probably the day after Stark Raven Mad.
My mother loves Fascination. One year she walked away, on our last trip to the Point for that year, with a tv, a bicycle, a lamp, some other stuff and a couple hundred coupons left over. A woman obsessed, that one. FAscination is perfect for cooling off and slowing down for a few minutes on a hot day.
one word DUMB i think it is so boring all of the prizes are dumb anyways. Just my opinon

How much do you have to spend to win anything big? I let the kids play a few times last season. My daughter won once. It a great place to go when it's hot and CP is crowded.
I was just wondering how many of you have tickets saved up at home? I have about 110.

Around 220 here (two of us collecting jointly since 1996) with a redemption made here and there for a few small things. It's not uncommon for me to spend $10 in a single sitting anymore.

And what's everyone's favorite table, if you have one? I'm preferential to table 21 (interior, immediately to the right of the announcer as he/she faces the players), and do not like tables 39, 40, or 35.
