Farewell, Wildcat.

I really disagree that the stage would've been better suited where Wildcat is now. BIf the dorms are indeed removed in the near future, that leaves a lot of room for a cool new attraction of some sort in Wildcat's old spot, while still leaving room for a larger midway.

I am pretty sure that if we do see a 2013 coaster, it would not be located where the dorms are because well... there are going to be people living there for this upcoming season. I don't think they would ber able to remove the employee housing and build a coaster over there by the time 2013 comes along.

The comment about new rides, coasters, and attractions being a part of CP's future is just a general comment meant to end the article/tweet on a positive note. I don't think you can link it to any kind of actual future planning.

^^ I agree with you that they can't really work on that area until the employees leave, but I don't think that it would be hard to tear down those buildings. Last time I was inside them, it looked like they were built with matchsticks and staples.

I guess in the end I'm just upset about how they did it and the fact that they aren't going to try and save it at all.

I'm not too upset about losing THIS coaster, just the fact that we are losing A coaster. I realize that the coaster wars are over, but as of today for the first time in at least 20 years, somebody else has more roller coasters than Cedar Point. Call it a meaningless title if you want, but it was a point of pride for me and I'm sure for many others as well. I wonder how much it costs to ship a case of Moët from Valencia to Sandusky?

I would be interested to know what type of mechanical issue would warrant pulling the ride out ahead of its (seemingly) planned removal. WildCat never struck me as a particularly complicated system; I mean, the ride is propelled & stopped by little more than a chain and a set of Goodyears.

The thing is, there has to be somewhere for employees to live, and constructing housing typically takes far longer than constructing a coaster (or similar attraction).

In other words, you'll know when Cedars is destined for removal, because the park will have already constructed and opened alternative housing elsewhere.

Magic Mountain had more roller coasters than Cedar Point after Green Lantern opened last July.

^ I think they went back down to 17 though because they removed some other coaster. Either way, they would still be in the lead because we just removed one.

I know that the Coaster Wars is over, but it still is nice to know that your park has the most number of roller coasters in the world. But I also agree that quality definitely is better than quantity.

Everyone agrees the timing is terrible. Which leads me to believe that something happened between its seasonal start-up a few weeks ago and the normal testing cycles you've been seeing on cam.

Even if you can't get a part on time, you announce to the public that WildCat won't open with the rest of the park and you wait for the part. Plain and simple.

They don't just arbitrarily make decisions this big. You have brochures, staffing, maintenance and guest issues to now deal with. That's why I'm convinced something happened.

And I seriously doubt it had to do with the lack of space on that midway. They've walked that space many times to get an idea of how big the stage would feel. Not to mention that's why blueprints exist.

I think this was a decision made since the control booths and everything was moved. They probly thought they could make it work but with the control booths right in front and the light towers, it just didn't look good. Cedar Point said they accelerated removing WildCat, whether that means removing it now instead of at the end of the season or now instead of 4 years, who knows.

Wow! saddened but let see where it goes from here. I share the multi-mental mood swings on this abrupt announcement. "That's All I Have To Say About That."

Exactly... accelerated. I doubt it was a space issue honestly - that could be part of it though. I'm more inclined to think something happened - think of all the park maps they'll have to print. Why would they do that to themselves with just over a week until the park opens, unless something happened. Hmm..

I figured WildCat would go before any other coasters, and while I found it to be really fun, it did seem out of place in such a large scale park, as others have said. Hopefully they do something with the space or build a tall wall around the outside of it so it isn't easy to see the midway from Perimeter Road.

This offseason has been a roller coaster.

Not a very good one, about on par with Wildcat.

I am going to stand by my claim of carnival coasters being close enough to Wildcat. They may not be quite as big, but they are close enough for anyone who desires this type of coaster.

With the expense of the work they are doing to that midway, it is completely out of place. To me it always looked that way.

It's a shame to see this ride go. I haven't rode it in years but I did enjoy it when I did ride it. Like many others have said I think something major either went out on it or something along those lines for the decision to be accelerated. With everything that goes into a decision I can't see it being decided so quickly.

And how many of those exist?

Dave's claim wasn't that they weren't similar, but that there aren't many of them, either in permanent or portable configurations, remaining.

I saw this move coming, but I didn't expect it to be removed 10 days before opening day. That's weird. I'm not upset just because it's one or those roller coasters I would pass up on because I was on my way to Millennium Force. I guess it could be worse; they could be removing Iron Dragon. Hopefully this opens the door for 2013 roller coaster unless Cedar Point is planning on building they're beach roller coaster that is rumored to replace Disaster Transport.

I know it's not a Schwarzkopf. But, this coaster has opperated at the Ohio State fair the last few years at least.
