Family of 7, first visit, what to do -- lodging???

Hi all, thanks for reading this and please help if possible.  My wife and I have 5 kids and will be the following ages in 2002 -- 15, 12, 12, 9 and 8 years old.  We want to have fun without losing our shirts.  Looking for a great place to stay with decent perks.  What's the best deal for such a family?  We'd love to stay on the grounds but is 9 months advance notice enough time to get an onsite room?  And a room that can accomodate 7 people?  We're not big campers so I don't think that's an option.  Please advise and thanks!

Signed,

Father of many who wants to please his family.

Get a cabin in the campground.  They are the same price as the rooms this year (dont know about next for sure). They are very nice with a great view of the lake and the back of the park.

If your looking to stay ON point then yes I agree with geek above....Lighthouse Point is Very reasonable and very nice accomadations that are soooo close to the park. If you want to go even cheaper then you'll need to look off point. If you decide to go this route there are many places in Sandusky that offer Suites and family style rooms such as Comfort Inns and suites.

My family and I rented a cottage at Lighthouse Point, they say it sleeps 6, but with the kids you could get 7 in there no problem.

The cottage includes tow televisions, a mini refrigerator, stove, and outdoor charcoal grill.  Very nice accomadations.  The one room has a queen size bed with one bunk bed, and the area near the kitchen has a pull out couch that turns into a bed.

The price for the cottage for one night was approx. $200.00, a little high, would have preferred the $150.00 range, but you are paying to be able to stay at Cedar Point.  You get free parking, so that saves you $7.00 per day.

What is nice is that you can bring your own food like hot dogs and hamburgers and eat there without spending a big buck in the park

If you are planning on staying there, you better make reservations now, because they are very hard to get.  I got mine in May of 2001 for August of 2001, and they only had 5 days left scattered throughout the year.  What is really nice, is that you can get a full refund on your deposit if you cancel 48 hours in advance, that is unheard of.

Scale of 1-10, Lighthouse Point is a 10, plus you get this awesome view of Lake Erie, the cottages are right on Lake Erie.

I dunno guys - because there are only 10 of the larger "cabins" maybe you really have to reserve early (especially for the weekends) - but I've never had a problem getting a room/cottage with a couple months notice.  We always go during the less-popular times, though, so maybe that's it.  But if you know your plans this far in advance, I guess there's no harm in booking now.  I will concur with the above - stay at Lighthouse Point - great accomodations, beautiful setting, and you're right in the park.  Can't be beat.
