Falling Items from coasters or rides

From time to time, some of you may have seen items fall out of nowhere from people on riders or coasters. Some of you might have lost things yourself. Usually, it's harmless, and keys and wallets are the items.

I myself have seen things fall from rides once or twice, nothing major. Yet when I was there last Saturday, something quite sizeable fell out of the sky.

I was walking out of the Magnum entrance out to the main Magnum area when a cellphone fell out of the sky and hit the ground no more than 10 feet in front of me. It landed near a small group in front of me and luckily, it didn't hurt anyone. Apparently from the looks of it, it flew from someone on TTD as it's making its ascent. Close call. Phew.

Has anyone encountered something major like this before? *** Edited 6/1/2004 11:11:10 PM UTC by David C.***

Sit at Wicked Twister's Freeway merge point for a half hour... you get used to cellphones and cameras raining down behind you and smashing to bits. Thank god for that tarp over our heads out there.

I saw a hat float down from the top of TTD. It landed somewhere over by Magnum's lift. It was just floating down and took a long time to finally hit the ground.

LOL. Me and my family were going to the Hotel Breakers. We were driving when all of a sudden, a fanny pack fell out of the sky. We were around the Millennium Force. We checked to see what was in it (naturally). We found 45 dollars. a cell phone, and some other things. We returned it to the office when we went into the park. The owners were standing right by the desk. They thanked us, and gave me 10 dollars as a gift. I was quite happy that day. *** Edited 6/2/2004 1:24:01 AM UTC by cedarpointlover***

A few times on millenium force I've seen change just floating over the second and third hills. I tried to catch it one time but it was out of reach. It was cool to se it just float.

One time when i was at Geauga Lake on Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall....everyone puts a coin on their leg to see if it floats right??? Well my friends all did it when we were at he bottom on the way out there were id say thousands of coins under the ride from people doing it i was amazed. Also while i was on the Villian (off the point) but I was puked on at night. Last ride of the night approaching 10 last year we topped over the second hill suddenly a liquid comes from the front row spraying everyone in the car we get back to the station there is puke all over the train and the people riding it was the grossest thing ever!
Yeah....could have done without that.
I think the major problem is that people believe items in pockets are secure, when in fact it's very possible for items to fly out of your pockets if they aren't zipped.

Ride Op '02-'07

Last August, I saw a teddy bear do a 420 foot swan dive. it took a while to get down, too.

I'm very fearful about the fact that in 29 years of going to amusement parks, I've never seen anyone barf, nor any evidence of someone having done so. Knowing my luck, when I finally do, I'll end up wearing someone elses Coney Fries and Dippin Dots.

On a Sunday in October, 2001, the same day the U.S. began attacking Afghanistan, I got konked on the noggin' by what appeared to be part of a pair of sunglasses just before entering the MF load station (back when I still fit on the ride). Unfortunately, it didn't draw blood.

But hey, I'm lucky. At least a person flying out of the train didn't land on me. That would have really hurt. And God knows, everyone was in danger on that ride back then, even before the geniuses at Intamin had to go into butt-cover mode.

As for fbama, what a yucky expectation. Tell me: Would you anticipate seeing the fries and Dippin Dots simultaneously? Unfortunately, I've seen the aftermath of vomiting on both MF and Iron Dragon and watched the crews disinfect and then send that train through empty, presumably to dry it out before the next riders hop on. Yuck!!!!!

Cell phone of death... nice. While we're on the topic of bodilly fluids... some girls get their time of the month early on a few of our rides... yeah.. that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Ugh. My worst was on the Beast at PKI. Some jerk threw a ketchup (or catsup, thanks, Mr. Burns) packet back and it exploded on my head, spraying everyone on the train. My ex lost her purse on Magnum. Luckily, someone else caught it with their face and kindly gave it back, without spiking it to the ground.
Hey don't you guy remeber a water dummie fell off of TTD and went into lake erie. how could you guys forget that. LOL

** Worst screen name ever**

the biggest item i've actually came into contact with at CP holds a semi interesting story...

On the first drop of blue streak in 2002 by some odd accident i nice little nokia walkie talkie landed smack in the center of my hand.

i had my arms raised for the first drop in the second row, first car and it landed smack in my palm, i turned to my riding partner with a odd look and recieved one in return. Obviously the man in front of my had lost it, which by the way he did not bother to thank me for returning.

had i missed catching it i hate to think it would have smashed into the people behind me or myself.

I have seen many people catch hats of other on a few different coasters.

Went into lake Erie? Or went into the swamp? I find it very hard to believe that the Dummy made it airborn all the way to lake Erie. It is a very far distance, for a flying dummy, in any direction.

I think he was joking, James K.

How do you get a whole purse on Magnum?

Well, I am always scared to death when my cell phone is in my pocket on any coaster. Although it is in a velcroed pocket, I find myself grasping on to it. Kind of spoils my fun of putting my hands up.

Oh, Duhhh...

Went right over my head.

Wish they'd realize its not a free fall, and that their little 'science' experiment won't actually work..
