Extra's for Movie Monday night?

Jason Hammond's avatar
Is anybody going to go to Cedar Point Monday night to try and secure a position as an extra for the movie being filmed? If so, how early do you think you'll need to be?

My understanding was they will use everyone that comes as a general background, and they will select 500 extra people for another more particular scene.
Is anyone even going to that, or is it going to be a bunch of teenage lurkers from here and other CP sites that read about it and went estatic?

I'm going out of curiousity. Not happy about the fact I have to pay parking, but I suppose I'll get over that.

I'm going to be there, along with a few friends of mine. How often to you get the chance to be in a movie?

I hope your right, they said they were expecting something like 10,000 people to show up. If all they were going to use was 500 people, then it would be a 1 in 20 shot. Unless they are looking for a specific demographic.

Well, i have a season parking pass, so i figured... what the heck. Plus it gives me an excuse to go into work late on tuesday.

I believe he said he had a season parking pass ... meaning he wouldn't have to pay the $8 to park.

Just a re-cap for anyone who did not attend the filming Monday night, aka 99% of you. Turn out was definately not what they had expected. 10,000 people was the prediction, 500 was about the reality. Filming on the beach consisted of a few big, and very loud explosions, but the area was blocked around the entire Wicked Twister and Giant Wheel area. No one was even allowed near the gates. The extras were used in the front of the park, just in front of the carousel. (My appologies again Mr. Hammond, we did in fact enter the park.) A number of different scenes were shot including volunteers from the local police department. People were slimed, people ran around the park, and there was screaming. Those few shots took about an hour. The final shot was of everyone in the group running out the entrance/exit of the park. They took a couple shots of that. In the end, just those four or five scenes took over an hour to complete.

It only took about an hour... but it took about 2 hours for them to get to the point of even needing the extras. I showed up at around 7:30 in anticipation of a line of which there was none. So I ended up hitting a few coasters. :) I checked back periodicaly and nothing happened until 9:30 when they started signing up. I was probably about the 20th person into the pavilions. This was by no means an advantage. I did however almost have the opportunity to be in a scene with a limited numper of people (about 20) over by the wicked twister while they were shooting the SWAT/Cop Scene where they shoot up the (very hot looking) alien. Suficet to say, they changed their mind about using extras in that scene. Most of the night consisted of waiting around. You could have shown up at about 11:30 and still have been in every scene. It was fun though. We got to talk to the actors. Two of which were Body Builders. The sliming scene was not what I expected, mostly due to the fact that their compressor for their pressure washer was not working properly. So they ended up using hand pumps. Definatly a B movie. LOL

It was a very fun thing to be a part of. Just seeing CP cops walking around with shotguns was hilarious, and it was even better to see them firing the shotguns. I had no idea they could cycle Giant Wheel and Troika like that, they ran non-stop for almost an hour.

Does anyone have any pictures of that night? I couldn't make it, but it sounded interesting. Not your average day at Cedar Point!

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

It took only two hours for the prep work? That's pretty damn good. I'm guessing they had more than one camera crew then? Anybody catch what camera they were using? How many lighting rigs were around?

(Can you tell I'm a film geek?)

All I can tell you were the cameras were tiny and the lights, well they had a few of them hoisted up. :-\ Sorry, can't you tell I'm not a film geek? :) )

Well, I'm not a film geek, but I would be willing to bet that they wern't to expensive. Their budget for the movie was $200,000.

Apparently this was not enough money to get a functional compressor to run their slime machine. They ended up using hand pumps to spray it and a much fewer people were "slimed" than I think they were hoping for. I use the term slime loosly because it looked and had a consistancy more representing Lime Koolaide.

If you want to see some of this guys work to maybe get an idea of what to expect, rent "The Interplanetary Surplus Male and Amazon Women of Outer Space." That is if you can find it of course. Sam Oldhan, the director of Close Encounters of the 4th Kind was a writer of this movie and it had the same executive producer as well.
