Extra Concrete

So when it's manually lifted over the hill, how does that work? Does someone sit there with a little hand crank and crank until it goes over?

Millennium Force was built in the year 2000, not 1000.

Sky Ride has a hand crank. I'm sure maintenance would LOVE to yank that crank.

Thanks for clearing that up Dragster, I was confused for a second, wrong millennium I guess. We can't all have the honour of being a Millennium Force ride op. ;)

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

How come everyone ignored my question? I was trying to find out what it all takes to bring a train back that vallies.

There are 2 ways to recover a train from a rollback. They both have been used. The first is to unbolt a removeable section of track located at several locations. Take the train off 1 car at a time. Put the cars on the end of the transfer track. The second option is to winch the train through the track.

Thanks djDaemon. I didn't even see his post until you said that. And here I was getting frustrated for nothing.

Hey ForgottenEE. Where are those removable track sections at? I'd asume at the lowest point, but up higher.

If you look at the crossties you will notice a block after the turn. That is a removable section. Basically it is two rails the length between two ties that can be removed. They are welded to a flat 1" thick steel plate thate mates with a simular plate welded to the track. It's held on with around 20 bolts.

The locations are of course the flat section before the last overbanked turn. Another is located on the island on the flat section just before the second overbanked turn. The last is between the first tunnel and the 182' hill to the island.

You forgot one. When they're removing/placing a train back on the track. Thats in between the two stations.

Thats called the transfer track... not nessesarly removable. But if you want to think like that....

There is no way (IMHO) that CP would use recycled concrete in footers. That's just foolish.

Umm....I think you posted that in the wrong thread. We aren't talking about using the concrete in footers, that is in the WWL thread.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

There are actually 4 removeable sections on the storage track that arn't even used for putting trains on or taking them off. They remove the limit bumper at the end. Then they place/remove the cars one by one. They use the removeable sections to line the wheel on for replacement. The concavity of the lining when worn makes it either very difficult or impossible to remove the wheels without removing the section of track.

Going back to the "extra concrete". Where is it anyways?

That was the train Tony could've been on for his 1000th ride! I was watching it from the station, and Mike was over at load 3 and he said the train BARELY made it over the hill onto the island. When the train came back into the station, we looked at the two guys in the front row with just a look of envy on our faces. I said to them, "You have no idea how much we all envy you two right now." And one of the guys said as we were giving them their ride-agains, "Now THAT was the highlight of my day....no...the YEAR! I don't even need the ride-again, that was the greatest thing that has happened to me ever!"

By the way, that guy that was narrating is annoying and wrong about just about everything he said, lol.

Ha, I was there in the station too. It looked like one of the maintenance crew members held a button in the station that made the lift slowly move.

If I remember correctly, didn't the power cut as the train with Tony in it start to roll into the loading station? Did they use a back up generator to manually power the lift?

I don't know about the maintenance guy moving the lift slowly, but yes, the train stopped in the middle of the station with Tony, Tony Clark, and bholcomb in rows 51 and 52.

One time when I was pulling into the station, (July) it stoped half way in. They had to let us get off on the catwalk. Soon after we got off it started again.

Sounds like a unbuckled seatbelt in both cases. There is a chance of something else though.

My favorite is when the trains are moving very fast and the ride estops while the train is in the course. The brakes stay closed and the waiting area tires are locked. When the train comes it still has a bit of speed when it hits the tires. It lets off a good screech.

The time with Tony was not a technical.
