Exploring Old Areas at Cedar Point

The area that was the separate Jungle Larry "island" was long landlocked already at that point with the back lagoonway filled in....There was more to explore back when I worked there in the late 70's but even then they basically just threw stuff out as they built new.

Sorry, that statement is incorrect. Walt's B/W auto road picture is from 1966 (note the Zugspitze ride behind Space Spiral) by the beach and the lack of a Cedar Downs ride which followed the year later.
Jungle Larry's island wouldn't be "landlocked" as you state until the end of 1975, the year they filled in the some of the back lagoonway for the building of Corkscrew and its new midway the following year. Jungle Larry's was redone for the 1976 season. You're right stating the island would have been landlocked when you worked there in the late 70s (after Corkscrew) but Jungle Larry's definitely had an island with a carryover bridge over the water from 1965-1975.

That pic's from 1967 for proof.

Here's an interview I did with Nancy "Safari Jane" Tetzlaff back in September 2002:

I did not say that it was landlocked in the 60's -- that ended up being a run-on sentence. It was landlocked by the mid-70's long before the Gemini midway was built.

So, all, forgive me for resurrecting an old thread, but the recent post with 70s photos got me wondering....

...how and when was the Gemini midway built? I can't remember if the entire length of Gemini midway came to life in one season or the midway was extended piecemeal each season until the Million Dollar Midway was linked to Frontiertown by the RR track crossing when Gemini was built. I remember Witches Wheel being a dead end...but am I just losing what few marbles I have left???

Thanks for helping me remember my misspent youth!

The midway did dead end at Witches Wheel until 1978 when Gemini opened, where it was extended to Frontier Town. The Gemini midway was actually started for the Corkscrew and then extended for Witches Wheel and then ultimately for Gemini.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
