Event today?

Just got up this morning...looked at Kings Island webcams and glad I made the decision yesterday to not head down to southern Ohio. So, I bring up the CP webcams and see people walking along the main midway,

So far I have seen numerous people. Some are mothers with strollers, as well as, someone with their dog! Is there some sort of event today that I must have missed hearing about?

March of dimes

First ride; Magnum 1994

Yeah, I just saw a group of people riding Raptor on Camera 2 (1:45EST) and I was like "what in the hell?" LOL. Oh well, only 1 more week to wait.

Friends and Family Day is today! I believe last year was the first time they did it. The crappy weather seems to be a recurring thing.

Yes, friends and family is correct. Was lucky enough to attend for a few hours and got on power tower, Skyhawk, and maverick (prior to it going down).

New Mean Streak is looking amazing and the inversion near the lift looks out of this world. For those interested the mean streak midway area was indeed blocked off with temporary queues near the railroad crossing, no idea if this will be the case throughout the season if it was just for today. Did snap a few pictures but not sure if posting is allowed or not at this point on this site.

Anyways great day and a huge thank you to CP!

P.s. I forgot to mention shiny brand new silver compacting trash cans throughout the park

Well since you weren't trespassing unless you were in a restricted area I would imagine the pictures are fine.

All fun and games until someone gets hurt. Not trying to be a debbie downer, but I think these are a bad idea. Has anyone seen these at other parks? Has anyone heard of any problems?

I'm too sexy for my harness!

^I haven't seen them at another park, but my university has one on campus.

^ Was wondering what their plan would be to deal with all the increased paper cup waste from the new drink plan.

If they're the kind that I'm thinking of, they function just like a mailbox, with no open parts to stick your hands into. Pull down the handle, drop your trash in the box, and let go of the handle (#2 in picture below). Safe and sanitary. With that said, these trash cans are not likely to accommodate overflowing very well.

Some airports use these. When they are full a sensor locks the opening to prevent overflow. But the public just sits their trash on top instead of finding another trash can. They also leak when large amounts of drinks are deposited.

I guess the critters at CP will now starve as they can't get to the half eaten fries. ;(

Don't worry about them- there'll always be saps like me freely and happily offering potato chips, fries, and the occasional bit of soft pretzel to the CP wildlife. :P

Proud 5th Liner and CP fan since 1986.

Got you beat there. I always carry hamburger buns in my pockets for the birds and fish. Once I brought bird seed but they didn't seem to recognize what it was.

Those fish by CCMR eat pretty well, I saw a worker filling the gumball\fish feed machines there with Purina CatChow.

Why is this even brought up as an issue? CP knows how to dispose of trash, they have done it for decades and decades, even when all the drinks were paper cups because the plastic bottles were not offered.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Or... it mighta been a joke.

Yeah, kind of was.
Anywho, been to KI twice now and haven't seen any overflowing trash bins and in fact my very informal unscientific survey shows the souvenir cups still rather popular. Maybe it is just an awareness issue but I wouldn't be surprised if the paper cup option doesn't turn out to be a much smaller percentage than one might assume.
