eggs, COOL! I hope you do become a coaster designer. If you keep your I won't settle for anything less ambition, you're well on your way.
What's the name of you and your friend's company?? I just know right now I am really interested in the amusement industry and I would LOVE to design coasters. I think that's something you should always look for in a job. If you have no appreciation for the product, you don't like your job nearly as much as when you do.

QUESTION-Any recommended colleges to go to for coaster design-like a college a coaster firm might want to see on your resume. I've heard from one of my dad's friends that people all over the world know about Purdue and how they are one of the best engineering schools. Perhaps this could be the way to go....

PS-eggs-if I ever put in a resume to you and your friends company, please hire me!! LOL
OK all of you designers out there, once your names are household words in the world of coasters, please remember us little guys who only ride them.

When I was 8, I wanted to be president of the United States!! Then I wanted to be a lion tamer. Now I am well on my way to be an astronaut. I'm gonna be the first man on Mars!! And I'm serious about it too!
Hey, I guess since I started this thread I'll tell a little about myself. I will be a senior this year, taking AP Calulus like many of you plan to. I plan on majoring in engineering and i think my number 1 school is Case Western Reserve University. I hope to go to chool there and maybe work at CP next summer. I have already decided I want to be an engineer, and I know I probably won't end up designing coasters, although I certainly will not pass up the opportunity to try. I thought maybe some day I could drop CCI a resume (they are in cincinatti right?), or maybe try to start a company, but if it never happens I will just continue to ride and enjoy myself just like I always have.
Good luck on CWRU, I'll be trying to get into the Grad program there next year. Another field that would possibly lead to coaster design is Biomechanics Engineering. One area it focuses on is the relationship between the human body and what it is sitting in. (Cars, coasters, etc.) It would probably be a long shot, but so is getting into the industry at all. *** This post was edited by LongLiveTheIronDragon on 7/18/2000. ***
I live in Indiana, so if I go to Purdue, like my brother, I'll get to keep my in state scholarship money. COOL! (that is, if I keep my grade up)

Magnum2G3, I can't tutor you, sorry. I've had someone offer $1,000 a month to do the work for them, but I turned them down. I doubt they would have even paid up.
I will also be in tenth grade next school year and one college I "want" to go to is ITT Tech in Indy. because there a person can learn about drafting and things like that. One other school or college I want to go to is the U. of I. in Il. becaues are known for there computer skill I think. Something else is that a person should like art in school so you can think of something to draw and how to design a coaster.
MFistheBEST, sure I'll hire you! The name is R&W Amusements, Inc. The college I want to go to most is CMU. Not only do they have an outstanding engineering department, but an amazing music program. But, whatever I can get into will work. But of course my dream is MIT, that's pretty near impossible though :).
I'm a BME, actually, at Michigan Tech.

[was accepted to CMU, too, incidentally, but they didn't offer quite what i wanted]

CCI is just a bit northeast of Cincinnati, actually, although I can't think of the name of the city.
West Chester, I think...and it is to the northWEST of Cincinnati.

eggs, just make sure you remember my GTTP name, I'll be sure to remember yours. :)
Wassup fellow class-of-'03 coaster designers!! Have Hon. Alg. 2 and Hon. Chem. this year also. And I thought I was unique... :-)

WAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUPPPPP! Okay, I've been seeing too many beer commercials.

Isn't anyone that want to design coaster unique?;)
Is it? Been a bit since I looked it up on the map-maker. I thought it was between Columbus and Cinci, though...
I'm also part of the class of '03, and I've been looking into becoming an architect of some sort, and now that I have a strong love and knowledge of roller coasters and the theme park industry, it seems like it would only be right for me to become a coaster or park designer of some type. Back when I was in 4th grade I made a book of coaster drawings, not the greatest drawings ever, but kind of interesting that I did such a thing before I really fell in love with coasters. So good look to everyone wanting to go into this field, and if anyone wants to start up a company, I'd be more then glad to help :)

2 Things, I live in Cinci (notice the name, U.C. Sig Ep), and it is in West Chester, which is just north of the outerbelt, I-275, towards Dayton.

2nd, I just graduated from here with a BBA in I.S., and I checked into jobs at different coaster design companies. Basically it breaks down to this, they hire engineers (even for there I.S. teams, usually), and you have to get extremely good grades all through college. A couple said that if you don't have a college GPA of at least 3.8, don't even send a resume, because they won't consider you. So a small piece of advice to all you High School-ers who want to get into the business, study hard! Myself, I spent too much time partying and doing other extra-curriculars to better my leadership skills, which is important as well. But I focused on that instead of my grades. Still graduated with a 2.9, though. :)

Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering are probably the best routes to get into if you want to design rides of any sort (flat, coasters..ect). Keep in mind that it's not very easy to get into the industry, so make sure you don't get into these majors if roller coaster design is all you want to do. There isn't as much math involved as you would think (if you take Calc 1 and 2 in high school). I'm just about to start differential equations (calc 4) and that's the furthest most colleges have you go in math (OSU, Case Western, Carnegie...etc). That's the furthest I'll go, so good luck to you all.
