Easiest route to Cedar Point
As far as the I 80 or 90 question. The fastest way (I come from Pittsburgh) is to hop on 76 which merges with 80, however you will be paying toll charges (about $4.75 from the PA border) I 90, you will not pay, but most likely get caught up in Cleveland traffic (not to mention it's a little out of the way).
If you want scenic, I ususally get off the Lorain exit, and make my way up to highway 6 (runs right by the lake the whole way to CP) Plus there are some nice towns like Vermillion and Huron.

Pretiest..at least from MID-MI..
1. Take I-75 South to the US23 Juction in Flint MI..
2. Continue on US23 South til you reach the OHIO border
3. Once in OHIO you will only travel on US23 for about 4 to 5 miles until you reach I-475 East
4. Take I-475 East til you reach I-75 North (I know it sounds wierd but
5. Jump on I-75 North for just a few miles til you reach 280 South
6. Get on 280 South for a few miles til you get to the OREGON exit Route 2
7. Get off Here and make a left at the top of the exit..You are now on Route 2
8. Go through Town (good place to stop and eat!!) and continue on Route 2 all the way to Sandusky area
9. Once in Sandusky I getoff on the Route 6 exit and follow the signs and the herd of traffic to the Point!

Actually Seven of 9, I think you're talking about route 2 - which runs the length of Lake Erie. Route 6 is farther south and I think you need to catch route 53(?) to get to the Point.
Animals rule - Route 6 is mostly two lane - it opens into a divided highway in the busier sections. Problem is - the Ohio stateies patrol it very well and it's a MAJOR truck route. (They don't want to pay the enormous tolls on 80/90.) My advice is to take the turnpike (80/90), and follow the signs. It's faster, safer, etc.

Yeah, I took the turnpike last summer...just trying to figure out if there is a quicker route coming from Wisconsin...probably the turnpike is the best choice. I don't plan on going straight through Chicago, I plan on going through right below it...but the traffic still really slows you down.
PS: I was always thankful for those "To Cedarpoint" signs...whenever I was out exploring the areas of sandusky, I could always find my way back home.

Tell me what you guys think: I am going to be making the trip this summer from Schenectady, NY, just northwest of Albany. Last time we took the NY Thruway (90) out all the way past Buffalo, through, Erie, and stayed right on 90 through Cleveland and right to Sandusky. Would it be such a crazy idea to take 88 down to 81 by Binghampton and then hook up with 80 to go across PA and into Ohio? I know the driving is real easy on the NY thruway and its basically a straight line. But last time, 90 through Cleveland was a real bugger. Or if you guys have any other tips from the Upstate, NY area, I'd appreciate it. I'm always trying to cut down the travel time! :) Thanks...

Hey Mango Madness I live in Lorain. And Route 6 is the route along the lake shore. In Lorain it's called Erie Ave, but if you live on the east side of Lorain it's East Erie Ave. If you live on the west side of Lorain it's called West Erie Ave. But mostly everybody calls it Lake Road. US Route 2 is the one that is just a little south of the lake. If you take Route 6 (lake road) it will take you right to the Point.

I have made the drive from C-Town to Buffalo/Rochester a number of times for business. When you are driving to the Point take 90. It is the most direct & easiest route to the park. The only way you'll hit a traffic tie up in Cleveland is if you hit rush hour. Make sure you time your trip so you are through Cleveland by 7:30 a.m You'll pick up some morning traffic coming in from the east but as soon as you are west of Downtown C-Town, traffic will fly. If you are making the trip at night, stay clear of downtown between 5-6 p.m.
Of course the wildcard in this whole scenario is "construction zones"

Consider exiting OH-2 at US-6 East of Sandusky at the exit marked "Rye Beach Road". Turn Right at the exit, then left at the light onto US-6. A short distance up the road, you will come to a *road* to your right (the first one that is a road instead of a driveway). Unless it is a very busy day at the park, there is generally a sign here to anti-mark the turn-off, something like:
[ CEDAR POINT ^ ]
That road is the entrance to the Chaussee. For a scenic drive up Cedar Point, pretend that the sign says...
[ CEDAR POINT -- ]
and drive the couple of miles up the Chaussee. It's an interesting approach to the park because you literally can't see *anything* of the park until you make the final turn towards the parking lot. It's a far cry from the skyline view you get coming up the Causeway.

There is a sign at the entrance to the Chaussee, at least when you are approaching from the East. But it is a folding sign. If the park expects to be busy, they unfold the sign, thus marking the Chaussee. When the sign is folded, as on average days in the park, the sign on the back directs you on down US-6 to the Causeway...so that not only is the Chaussee not marked, it is ANTI-marked.

I pass the sign many times daily. The sign almost never comes down. When you exit on to Rye Beach Road, you'll pass the new Shell gas station, a Speedway, McDonalds, Subway, and KFC. You keep going straight on that road and you'll pass Sawmill Creek Resort, and my house, so keep on going pass Barnes Nursery, and pretty soon you'll see a folding sign. Keep on going about 1/4 mile, and you'll see two curved roads that make one road. Take that road long enough, about 4-6 minutes, and you'll be at CP!
I always thought that sign was just bent or something. Also, if I rememeber right, the Chaussee is marked when you are coming from the west. Of course, you most likely passed the main entrance a few miles back if you're coming from the west so the sign is kind of useless! I always remember where the Chaussee is by looking at the billboard that is right before the turn. Last year, every time I saw the ad for the Island Rocket, I knew it was time to turn!
