Dusk to Dawn or Clarion Hotel

Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? I need something really inexpensive but clean & ok to stay at. Both of these are about the same cost for the time we'll be coming to CP. Please post if you know anything about either of these hotels (bad or good). Thanks.
I've never stayed at Dusk to Dawn, but I've driven past it countless times.

I think I'd rather sleep in a shoebox.

I saw this question posted on Coasterbuzz, and said my peace there. Dusk to Dawn is filthy... trust me, you don't want to stay there. For a cheap and nice stay, try the Days Inn across from the Sandusky Mall.

I stayed at the Clarion recently. Very nice place and reasonably priced - though it was the last weekend of the season.

Didn't they tear down and rebuild the Dusk to Dawn not too long ago? It looked a lot worse then...

Jim

I am guessing Dusk to Dawn is a last resort for people.

Dusk to Dawn is bad, very, very bad.
This really depends on the time of season you are going. During peak season (July & August), there are no cheap places in Sandusky. They all gouge you!!!

As far as Dusk to Dawn Motel (Vampire Motel as I like to call it), it depends on what your perspective is of hotels. I don't like to get fancy. For me a good room consists of: 4 walls, floor, ceiling, bed, shower, & heat/air. I have stayed at DTD several times and never had any problems. I agree there are a lot better places. But have stayed at worse!

So, sawlac, if you are a simple person just wanting a place to sleep cheap, don't listen to anyone else criticizing it and try for yourself. If you want a little more luxury, DTD will not suit you.

Oh come on, Dusk to Dawn isn't THAT bad. The room was clean. It's just a cheap motel, and you should expect to get what you pay for. However, the lady at the front desk didn't like us at all. We got three complaints for being loud, but we weren't even making any noise at all?? I think someone got the room number wrong when they were complaining.

After staying on point, I'll never stay off point again. Just spend the extra bucks and do it right!

Well if your going to go at the end of the season try the Best Budget Inn on Cleveland Rd. Not to high priced and a little cleaner than DTD! And a lot closer too!

The Clarion Inn is great! I would definitely suggest you stay there. It's reasonably priced and always clean! And it's really not that far from CP at all.
Best Deal - Peak Season

Try Bayshore Estates Campground just past the entrance of Cedar Point. $30 a night for RV w/full hook-up 4 peak season (Water, sewer, electric and cable TV). Even if you don't have an RV, they have tent camping, on the bay Approx $15-20. They have a shuttle bus ($5.00), extra-clean bathrooms and showers.

Stay at the Greentree Inn or Breakers Express! Both are on the causeway road and are worth the cost. All the other hotels in the area are sleezy and I wouldn't even waste $30 on them.

I stayed at the Best Western in August and that wasn't too bad at all. (And it was pretty close to the Point too)

Possibly because I work for Choice Hotels (the company that owns the Clarion name) or possibly because I have had problems at Dusk to Dawn, I highly recommend the Clarion Hotel. It's a beautiful property, nicely themed and has just about every ammenity you could want including microwaves and refrigerators in most rooms for those extended stays (who goes to C.P. for just one day after all?).

Other good choices would be the Sleep Inn just south of Route 2 on Milan Rd. I've also had good experiences with the Econo Lodge on Cleveland Rd. (but NOT the one on Milan), the Comfort Inn on Cleveland and the Budget Inn just East of Friday's at the Radisson belive it or not isn't too bad for the price. The Travelodge on Milan just north of Route 2 is also great if you're looking to save some cash. However, like Magnum C.M. says, they're all going to nail you for some pretty high rates during the peak season.

Most brand name hotels offer a toll free reservations line that can be used to survey the area and find the best price possibly. My advice is to haggle with the reservations agent...they're more than likely to work w/ you seeing as the average cost to the hotel for a one night stay averages out at around 15-20 bucks...don't let them take you for too much.

Dusk to Dawn is absolutely hideous, unless you don't mind bugs and spiders. Travelodge is decent priced, not far from the park, and the people at the desk were great every time we stayed there last yeaer.
