Dusk to Dawn Hotel

I know this is weird but does anybody know what happened to the Dusk to Dawn Hotel. When we drove past it on Saturday the 15th the hotel was closed No Windows Front Door Open and the New Pool and the Fence removed. I was wondering maybe Fire, but do you know?

From the Sandusky Register, August 30, 2005:

The Dusk to Dawn Motel, a familiar landmark on U.S. 250 near Meijer, will soon be heading off into the sunset.

Hoty Enterprises Inc. completed the purchase Monday of the motel and 2.24 acres of property from the Ruta family. The Hotys plan to demolish the hotel, located at 4816 Milan Road, and replace it with a retail development.

The purchase price was about $1.6 million, said Kula Hoty Lynch, a principal at Hoty Enterprises. The Hotys are in talks with Meijer to buy another section of land, about an acre, that's just south of the hotel.

The sale provided an opportunity to sell the land for a good price and sell a hotel that doesn't fit well with the current market, explained George Ruta.

Ruta and his father, Carmelo Ruta, now own 13 hotels, almost all in the Sandusky area, through their two companies, Carmelo Ruta Inc. and Ruta Hotels Inc. During April, they opened the new 89-room Comfort Suites at 6011 Milan Road, near Ohio 2.

"It was an opportunity to unload a hotel and we got a good price on it," Ruta said. Economy hotels "are just not fitting in the market anymore. Everyone wants to stay in midmarket hotels," he said.

Ruta said Dusk to Dawn will shut down within a few days and be turned over to Hoty Enterprises in about 30 days.

"Depending on business, it looks like we'll be closing next Monday. We'll see how the weekend fares with Cedar Point," he said.

The hotel building will be gone soon, Lynch said.

"We bought that property purely for land use only," she said. "We are going to demolish the hotel."

The demolition will likely be accomplished before winter, perhaps in October.

"The sooner we can get the hotel down, the better we'll be able to market the property," Lynch said.

The new development will likely be similar to Hoty Enterprises' Outback Plaza development, with one large tenant of about 4,000 square feet and several smaller ones, Lynch said.

The Hotys were interested in the property and discovered the Rutas were willing to sell, Lynch said.

"We just like to knock on doors and we knocked on the right door at the right time," she said.

Good, that place was terrible. I booked a room there and they denied it to me when I went to check in because they didn't have any "hot water"

What a crock, it was so late at night also after Halloweekends and I had to find another hotel and go through the hastle of getting hotels.com or some website like that to contact the manager of Dusk To Dawn to confirm we didn't stay there. Which was pretty much impossible because Dusk To Dawn is the worst hotel ever. So I finally asked for a supervisor and they credited it right away.

Wow geewhzz thats got to be awesome to hear after a long day and your tired. You have to love those types of Hotels. Well Dusk to Dawn Bye Bye we wont miss ya. And Thanks Walt for the reply.

For some reason I can't stop thinking about the Sopranos.

Anyway...no big loss on that hotel. It was cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Dusk to Dawn? Wasn't that a vampire movie with George Clooney?

Yes. It also starred Quentin Tarantino and Cheech Marin and is pretty dang good too. Although the movie was called "From Dusk Till Dawn" you're close enough.

Is that the movie with the hilarious joke about peeing all over the bar?

I'm glad this hotel is gone. Heard nothing but negative comments about it.

I'm staying at the new Comfort Suites in 2 weeks. $62 (with coupon) a night, for four. Free shuttle to CP, continental breakfast, and a nice new room. I thought it sounded good.

I stayed at the Tudor Inn over the weekend of 10/29. I found a live cockroach in the bed. Yuck.

The Tudor Inn?!?!?!?! WOW! I thought the only way you could stay at that place was if you showed a welfare card or something like it.

Years ago when I bartended at Daly's Pub, I helped a customer move out of the V.O.A. shelter to the Tudor Inn. He got in a fight athe V.O.A. and got kicked out. I don't know what I was thinking! Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking because a bunch of us had been drinking all day!

What a dump.

There are a few of those in Sandusky. That is why if you have the money, STAY ON POINT!

If you have the money to stay on point in the crappy hotels there you might as well just spend your money at a real resort that has decent lodging like WDW.

I am glad its closed, the place was a dump. We stayed there last season.

The place was in bad need of an upgrade, the carpet was stained, it stunk like mold, the walls had cracks and holes in them.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I used to stay at the Value Inn. That was ok as there were no bugs.

I have stayed at the Contemporary a couple of times. It was fairly nice. I enjoyed the way the monorail came through the lobby and stuff. And the hotel by itself was nicer than most at the point.

But the hotel is only for sleeping and stuff. I am wondering where the Millenium Force, Magnum, Meanstreak and TTD Disney ripp offs were. Or did I miss them?

Yeah Dusk till Dawn was kind of a crappy motel yet our crew party back in 2000 does have some memories for me. BTW The movie with the peeing on the bar joke is Desperato with Antonio Banderes and Cheech Marin.

Don't anger the Potato People.

Y'all ready for some serious sidewindin' in 2007?

Those were the days.
