Hello,
I'm new here. I thought I would post a topic.
In a recent employee meeting at that factory that I work, the HR director made the following announcement: 'due to the economic conditions there will be no Cedar Point tickets this year.' The company gave the employees free tickets., but this year they are not.
I was wondering if there's anymore companies out there are eliminating free Cedar Point tickets? If so, I think this will really hurt Cedar Point.
Buck
While it obviously doesn't hurt Cedar Point for companies to buy a bunch of tickets and give them to employees, I think the vast majority of the crowd are families and young adults enjoying the day off. So I don't forsee this "really hurting" CP, but I'm sure they're expecting lower attendance figures this season.

^^ I agree that CP wont really suffer any due to the fact that company's may not purchase tickets for their employees this year.
But I am willing to say that even though that the economy is not so great this year, Cedar Point may have a higher attendance this year then last. The economy may not have been this bad last year but GAS prices were through the roof.
Mid summer last year gas was $4.50 some places. They are saying that this summer gas prices may drop from $2.00 to $1.25 because the united states is using less oil and we have an abunance of it.
So because of that I bet more people will be willing to spend a few extra bucks to get away from the stress of this $h!tty economy.

Could you please cite a source. I find this hard to believe when I hear from just about every news station that gas will keep rising in price.
That's funny cause on today's 6pm news they were talking about how we should expect price's to rise to around $2.50 range this summer and back to $4 by next year...

I don't think CP is going to file for bankruptcy because Buck's company is canceling their tickets. I do imagine some salesman for CP is going to hurt if he/she keeps losing accounts like that.
With Chrysler in bankrupcy, cities like Windsor here will nearly shut down. Our main employer is our Chrysler Minivan plant. After that the next biggest employers are the feeder plants who make parts for the vans. For the next 9 weeks while Chrysler plants are shut down things are expected to be very slow in the city. I guess CP can continue to hope for people to make the short trips to CP instead of planning a big summer vacation.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

There's losing accounts because you're a moron, and there's losing accounts due to nothing beyond your control.
This is the latter, and I doubt anyone will feel the wrath because of it.
Companies are cutting all non-essential expenses. And this is one of those expenses. Nothing Cedar Point said was going to change that short of giving them the tickets, and that wasn't going to happen.

I doubt he meant that someone is going to get into trouble, I think the term "hurt" was meant to mean in the wallet. I'm assuming account managers at CP get commission, so the sales people will be hurting if enough companies decided they can't afford CP.

Yeah Pete that is exactly what I meant, that can really hurt when you start to lose those clients that are a guarantee every year.
Nah, attendance won't go down. At least not after the first of every month once welfare checks are in. It's a tradition that has yet to change.

I read in on CNN.com about three weeks ago. I also saw it on a MSNBC special over the winter.
All i can say is even if i am wrong about gas prices dropping to $1.25,
$2.50 is still not $4.00 for a gallon of gas.
So I am still sticking with that people will not mind spending $20.00 to $30.00 to fill up there tank to get away from the stress of the economy.

Welcome aboard, Buck.
Just sorry to hear that your place of work is obviously suffering somehow; I hope you're still able to make it to the Point regardless. :)
If a company that typically rents out CP for a day stops, it certainly will make a small dent.
I dont think Buck was trying to say this will run CP into the ground, people. Will it make a dent? Of course it will; how could it not? Will this one dent matter in the long run? Probably not, but too many dents strung together would certainly leave a mark.

I think that something interesting could happen with local travel this summer. Since so many plants are going to be closed for nine weeks and those employees will still get a significant portion of their salary, they might be looking for things to do this summer. Just a thought.
...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
I don't know what the deal is in the US, but in Canada those employees who are laid off for 9 weeks get 60% of their wage. Natas, your point could be very true, but they may also want to save. Maybe they will choose to save by going to CP for a couple of days instead of a long-distance trip. It could go either way. Time will tell.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Yeah, I'm only getting paid 60% of my normal pay and could barely make ends meet at 100%, but screw it, lets forget paying the bills and head to the Point!
I seriously doubt it.

Discover Card used to take us to CP or KI every year (didnt buy out the park, just had a special day) that ended years ago.
I don't think I am non-essential, but I am being bought out today after working for Discover for 19.5 years. No worries, great buy out package and an opportunity for me to work doing something I want (horse related) where (Florida) I want to do it :)
For now, will enjoy the summer CP'n and Raptoring :)
As a fair warning to any PBers who have a DC-their APR going up and if you pay your balance off in full (or make a huge pymt) they are going to check your credit and if it is less than PERFECT they will lower your LOC or close your account. I dont think DC the only credit card company doing that-thanks to the new regulations (wth is next Obama?) credit card companies are going to tighten their belts big time.
