With Disney, Busch Gardens, and now Six Flags jumping on the Dubai train; what should Cedar Fair do?
We all know CF doesnt have the money, management, or imagination to jump on this but what else could they do?
Cedar Fair right now is in a bad spot. They are in debt and MOST parks attendence are going down. Six Flags has finally got the right idea of not adding rides every year and making their parks better. That is partly due to some new management. When is Cedar Fair going to realize this?
Any ideas?

Lot's of money to be made in Dubai. Rich area of the world right now since they have what the rest of the world wants.
Although this is better suited for Coasterbuzz.
Well then.. I'm sure Dubai will be the center of the world some day, I mean I might as well go live in Dubai and go to Michigan State University in the Dubai International Academic City which will be opening this fall.

There goes more people leaving the state of Michigan. Last one out, turn off the lights.

Dubai is located on the other side of the world and as of right now, it really doesn't have a chance at grabbing U.S. tourism. I believe their target is more likely Europe.
It will be interesting to watch Dubai over the next decade though.

I think there's a couple of us that work for companies in Michigan that are making money. It's few and far between, but it is happening.

Yes if we were talking about those parks but we are talking about what Cedar fair can do.

What is, take care of the parks they already have and their current debt, Trebek?

Yeah but what else can they do better, because we all know they arent doing that to well.

I wouldn't say that. As far as I know, the company is paying back its debt. They're just doing it slowly, which is what they said from the beginning.
CF still has a lot of work to do after doubling its size in 2006. That move took them off the market for a new park for a long time. Especially one halfway around the world from their other properties.

I believe Dubai is for anyone who is looking for "exclusive". If your net worth is over $2,000,000 kind of place.
I mean they do it "big". Those islands, the 7 star hotel, and now some sort of attractions.
I think it will struggle with "attractions". Until the area has a full featured theme park and really creates a reason for families to want to go to Dubai.
First of all many of those nice restaurants on the 7 star hotel...don't even allow children.
This Dubailand might be "twice the size of Disney", and honestly guys...do they NOT have the space to develop? If they drop a billion on a theme park it can only have at least a few cool things in it right? Imagine if they do it right and really make a coooool theme park? Look at the islands they built off the shore and tell me they don't build cool things.
It's a desert next to an ocean. Your water for the water parks isn't far away...
I have heard UAE's oil income isn't as large as they want it to be and they are looking to try and create tourism / home owners / business center for the middle east.
I don't understand the intention of this topic. Is it to say that Cedar Fair needs to get its crap together (a topic that has been well covered many times), or is it to say they should go to Dubai as well? If it's the latter, for what purpose? They've made serious mistakes in markets they just acquired, I can't see them expanding around the world.

I don't know that'll be the case. Hotels in Dubai tend to serve alcohol, provide you're not a national and you don't leave the building with it.

I personally think that building in Dubai may be a good risk if it ever did happen. I just don't know how it will stand up to Dubailand or the Busch Island. They would need to make some pretty ridiculous attractions to gain any attention... I would enjoy a 800 foot coaster ;)
