I think I can speak for the Gem100's that we probably ARE protective of that day. A lot of things came together to make it perfect and it was the first of its kind, which made it extremely special. That's something to be protective of. Those who made it worked HARD to get there, a lot of running, sunburn, lack of food water and bathroom, and a heck of a lot of cameraderie...an amazing bonding moment. I made a lifetime friend in Rob in just those few hours and I know there were similar things going on all around. Now I'm not saying you guys didn't have that either...but these are the factors that came into why probably some people HAVE been defensive. It was not an easy day at all.
Those of us that did it might warn that if it's done again, it just won't be the same...but does that keep anyone from doing it? No. Merely an opinion. And the next marathon that's done may blow the Gem100 away. But yeah, we're protective of that day...you guys have a right to be of your day, but I have to agree with Magnum Is Sinking that a sequel to that day just wouldn't be the same. I think the DT event was too close to the Gem100 too...most of us were still worn out or had used our vacation days already. Given more time more of us most likely would have shown. That's my .02 on the whole issue.
