I think I can speak for the Gem100's that we probably ARE protective of that day. A lot of things came together to make it perfect and it was the first of its kind, which made it extremely special. That's something to be protective of. Those who made it worked HARD to get there, a lot of running, sunburn, lack of food water and bathroom, and a heck of a lot of cameraderie...an amazing bonding moment. I made a lifetime friend in Rob in just those few hours and I know there were similar things going on all around. Now I'm not saying you guys didn't have that either...but these are the factors that came into why probably some people HAVE been defensive. It was not an easy day at all.

Those of us that did it might warn that if it's done again, it just won't be the same...but does that keep anyone from doing it? No. Merely an opinion. And the next marathon that's done may blow the Gem100 away. But yeah, we're protective of that day...you guys have a right to be of your day, but I have to agree with Magnum Is Sinking that a sequel to that day just wouldn't be the same. I think the DT event was too close to the Gem100 too...most of us were still worn out or had used our vacation days already. Given more time more of us most likely would have shown. That's my .02 on the whole issue.

I agree Anne.. on every account.. and the next marathon (the one you and Brian talked to me about and I'm still working on the details) would have to wait till way late in the season. Yes we are protective about that day.. It was special.

Also, I have a slight feeling, ok.. I KNOW the Gemini crew feels the same way about that day. They all talk about it all the time and they even have used it to convince kids to ride the ride. They felt like they were riders in a way and are protective, and proud of us.

P.S. A RG 100 would be impossible, there are rules against serving alchohol to already intoxicated people.. And I know the bartenders and the blue tags in that building take that VERY seriously. You should see how strict they are about the one drink per person rule in there. Remember Liz during the GTTP meeting there on Father's Day???

Let me know when you're coming back.. I'm there.. hehehe

To repeat any momentous event (IE, another Gemini 100) would be anticlimatic, because I agree that the first is the most special. But it would be neat to recreate the event (either late in the season or on the anniversary) as the "Gemini 101, 102, 103" etc. each time so that more people who could not make it would still be able to participate in a marathon like that. But only those that were there the first time around would be able to say "Gemini 100". You have a right to be protective of the day/event, but what about those people that would have loved it but couldn't make it? You can't be angry at them for wanting to have a similar event that they can participate in as well! Just don't call it the "Gemini 100" or such. Make your own as unique as that first one.

Just a thought, gang. I'd like to think that we're all friends here, riding marathons each day in our hearts when we can't be with our compadres at the park itself.

Yeah, I'm working on that one too....that's probably gonna be done today besides picking a day to do it or at least I keep telling myself to put it together already. Part of my problem has been my own screwy work schedule and trying to make sure I CAN do it. After hearing about the Gem100, I'm gonna be really ticked if I miss this one too, especially after putting the whole thing together.

But I also agree with Anne and Rob. Not knocking the DT80 or so, but it was a bit too soon and too similar to the Gem100. Sometimes you just can't recreate such a thing...there are just unique experiences in life. If you miss them, let it go and move on...there will be more things to come.

I really should be working...
For the record.. the one I was refering to was Brian's (Wolfhounde's) idea.. We talked about it at the park the other weekend and I was just trying to help him come up with a method to verify people's honesty...

It's not my idea.. jut trying to help out... Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.. IT was not my intention..

I think Brian and I should earn an honorary TGI Friday's 85 after Sunday. I'm surprised the park's intact after that one. Rob, you actually talked to Brian about something that night? I bet he doesn't remember what it was. This entire past week was a marathon....I think I pulled a Louie's/Daly's/RG 150 between everything.

I think everyone should chill on the marathon thing. There will be plenty more for everyone. Yanno, not everyone can do everything...even the people who WERE there didn't necessarily make the entire thing. So be it. I'm going to miss events too, and be grouchy about it, but screw me, so be it. There will be more, folks...they just have to be planned well.

Okay so I gotta brag...Bri came up with THE most awesome marathon idea that will knock everyone on their butts. We're still putting the details together and when we're ready we'll let everyone know..but this will be the GTTP event to end them all so far...trust me...as for now I am in a VILE mood with a ripping sore throat and I'm going to go to bed..I need some music to calm myself down...

Hey now, I really did remember conversations from Sunday...ok, so maybe there were a few things after CCMR that are slightly fuzzy, but it seems I didn't get a lot of sleep before then. Keep having these all night conversations AND SUCH and then have work the next morning.

Ok, back to the marathon stuff. My only question to everyone would be when might people be able to have a day free for it?

The sooner the better!!! Because I am really missing being at CP with Anne, my PIC, Dan, JS, skykicker, Nat, MIS, and whoever else has met me that I have forgotten. Lately it has been "No CP for me"

I rode Magnum 5 times and MF once with Robin Innes.

It's Dan K's fault.
I feel you on that, Hooper! I've been trying to come up with ways to cure my need for CP. PKI doesn't cut it, so I've been working on my car, making it faster. I'm having MF withdraw, I think. I need an excuse to get back up there. I'm going to Cleveland this weekend with a friend to help him find an apartment, but he doesn't like coasters. One, he gets sick on a lot of rides. Two, he has a hard time riding (he's a VERY big boy). I know I wouldn't be able to talk him into going, and I don't think I'd want to go anyways. Too hot and crowded. I'll wait until later in the season. I have vacation time in September for a week. I may have to come up then...we'll see....
