Drop Off Area

Does anyone think that Geauga Lake will block off the drop off road in front of the main gate to discourage parents from dropping off their kids for the day? Or will they keep it open to appease the local visitors. I mean, sometimes the park seems like its filled with little kids running around and screaming all day, and I think it takes away from the park experience. At Cedar Point, at least I felt, there was a more "mature" crowd. At SFWoA, I felt like I was at a daycare with rides.

It is closed off right now, but that could be because the access gates that open up to the road (behind Hydes) are being used occasionally.

I personally hope they ditch it. I think the babysitting has to stop if the park is going to be successful.

What time does the water show start?

They should just finish blocking it off and just blend it in with the parking lot and make it look nice. I think SFWoA had this in mind when they re-routed the road around the parking lot, quess they didn't have the cash to finish what they started. There's no reason to open it back up to local traffic.
GL/SFWoA has always been a 'daycare with rides', and will continue to be one. All tho, I, like many others here would like to see that stop. Even if they ditch the drop off spot(which I'm all for), rt. 43 is just a short walk from the main gate, which still makes it easy to drop a kid off. That and some parents may start using the stores across the street as a drop-off/pick-up point. Only way I see this 'daycare' stuff end, if CF sets-up some kind of age limit thing, where kids under a certan age must enter the park with an adult.
But what is the cut off? I used to get dropped off when I was a teenager, and I don't want teenagers today not to have the options I had when I was younger. But then again, this was when I was almost old enough to drive, although I didn't get my licence until 18.

I do hope though, that the maturity of the average guest increases. If the kids are mature enough not to need baby sitting, they are fine with me. Too bad too many aren't.

Because of the location of the park and its accessability it will always be a summer pool for people in the immediate area. The value of a season pass is to great if it's close enough for your kid to ride his/her bike there! So suck it up and quit whining, they have a right to be there too.
There are a lot of people that still park in the shopping center and jump Aurora Road. Removing the drop-off spot would discourage these people

It will always be a daycare with rides. Its easy to spend money on a season pass and have the kids at the park all summer.

GL is a local park easily accesible by neighboring highly populated areas. Accompanied by the amount of kids that are there with their families, it is a kid haven!

Hopefully the $99 season pass next season might discourage the babysitting as well.

Like said before this park has always been a day care with ride. Just the way it is. But getting rid of the circle would also mean getting rid of the hotel shuttle drop off and pick which could also be bad for business.

Best thing I ever saw was I got off work early one day around 8pm and went to Subway across the street to see about 10 tow trucks(the big flatbed kind that can hold 2 cars) towing cars left and right out of the shopping center lot and people running from the park trying to get to their cars in time. Great, I loved it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I though CP had some sort of 'drop-off' policy where you did not have to pay for parking if you got in and out of the parking lot in under a half hour.

That $99 season might slso discourage other quests from returning to the park. That's anther one of my concerns. Alot of people I've talk to(non-coaster geeks) that have had SFWoA passes in the past, aren't willing to shell out $99 a person for there whole family next year just to attend GL.

Back on topic here, I'm pretty sure GL can create an access point for shuttle busses to enter the parking lot, if they remove the drop off area.

But if they can shell out $99 to visit GL AND CP, that might be a different story.

Yeah? And your point?

"Hmm. . .we don't have anything like that. . .but I can give you this comment card."

I think that you still have to pay the 50 cent causeway toll, even if you're dropping someone off or picking someone up.

The shuttles could enter through the park's regular driveway though and perhaps have a reserved turnaround area near where the old crosswalk is (the six flag pole plaza), or it could just enter Geauga Lake Road by Villain and pick up on that side of the crosswalk. It wouldn'y take long to fill in and pave over the ditch on the one side of the road to make a nice turnaround section.

For peope like me any you, that would be an awesome deal. But others might think otherwise. There are those GP that want only to attend GL and not CP. To them that's a $40 increase. That's a pretty big blow. A good example is my mom. She won't shell out $99 for a GL season pass, and she dosen't care for CP that mcuh(mainly because of the drive and the extra charge waterpark). I'm pretty sure many others will feel the same way. Besides, how many GL season pass holders will take full adventage of the GL/CP offering? I say about half, if that.

IMO, they want to keep the season pass sales up, or even increase there sales, they should offer two types of passes. Say $60-$70 for a GL pass, that could include all CF parks except CP, but a GL pass only would do. Then you can have the option to upgrade your pass for say $20-$30 more to include CP. That way everyone is happy, and CF can make a killing by offering two types of passes.

My guess is that shaggszgn is close to the money. In fact, I expect the "premium add-on" to cut both ways. For exposition, I'd bet something like this for next year

CP+ nonGL CF parks: 105 (expect an increase)

GL only: 59

Chainwide ride park only (bought at either park): 125

Soak city would be a $50 (or $55) add on to either CP pass, and JCC would continue to be a CP-specific add-on as well.

But, I think they park is doing the right thing by taking their time to figure this out---I'd expect to see plenty of "would you consder $X a good value for a season pass to both parks" questions on this year's in-park surveys at both parks.

What's sick is on other boards there was a girl that talked about being dropped off at 13 years old -- and being in charge of her little nieces. She didn't know what was wrong with that at all. I guess it's the same group that's been visiting for years. How much did old GL passes cost?

So, why can't the park close off the park to just automobile access? And maybe make a "no walking onto the property" policy. Sure it would deter some people, but they're trying to get around the parking fees anyway. Perhaps a parking pass would help alieve the situation a bit for those who park accross the street.
