Driving Question

I am heading down to Cedar Point on Tuesday, June 6th for my first trip this year. I want to get some advice from some seasoned southeastern michigan Cedar Point travelers on the construction situation. My route to Cedar Point is always I-75 South to I-280 South to Route 2, which I believe is exit 7. Is that route still possible or which way should I go to get their faster. I know I could go to ODOT and get updates, but they won't be as helpful as everyone here. How is the I-280 situation and I-75 construction in Monroe county? Thanks in advance and hope to see some of you their on the 6th.

Take I-75 south to the Washington Street exit, follow washington street to SR-51, make a right, and then a left over the Suspension bridge. Follow that 2 more lights and you'll see a SR-2 sign, Make a left, and follow that out to the Point.

We'll be going North over the 1st of July from 80/90W to 280 to 75N.

Is 280 closed still at some point and if so, what route should I use to get up to 75N?

From there we'll take 275 to 96 all the way out to MiA, is there anything in that stretch we should worry about? *** Edited 6/5/2006 5:28:18 PM UTC by Loopy***

23 North/South usually has orange barrels...I know it did a couple of weeks ago. Jeez, I hate that road..

Loopy, the best way for you to go would be to skip 280 entirely and just get off the turnpike directly onto I-75. It'll take a little longer that way as the 75/turnpike interchange is a long ways southwest from where the 280 exit is, but you'll save yourself some hassle.

And Mr. Scott, you should try living in the middle of that 23/475 nightmare. Now that they're tearing up Monroe St. (one of the major ways around that highway mess) it's just impossible to get anywhere. I've been going up into Michigan and using back roads up there whenever I have to get anywhere. I love summer driving season.

MrScott: At what point will I need on 23?

Chris: The link below shows what you mean as far as skipping 280, correct?

I'd feel like a real tool going that far out of my way, is it really that much hassle on 280? *** Edited 6/6/2006 1:09:33 AM UTC by Loopy***

Since you are actually coming from the east, you may not have to. I'm north. Try www.yahoo.com and check out the maps section. I've only seen the construction in Michigan and Northern Ohio.

Yah Loopy, the yellow is the route I'm talking about. The "official" 280 detour (state route 795) is going to take you from a few miles north of 75 on 280 all the way back to the 75/turnpike interchange, so that's even more out of the way. There is an "unnofficial" detour if you just drive north on 280 to the very point of the closure, but that way can be a little hairy at times. If you don't know the area, I'd suggest 75, but if you're up for an adventure and don't mind driving though scary neighborhoods, you can try the "unofficial" 280 detour.

Haha....ya i think i'll just go all the way to 75. I don't need to get lost in some hood on vacation, i''m thinking that would put a damper on things a bit. ;)
