Dramamine and CP

I know off season topic.....on my last visit to the park I brought Dramamine with me and it worked wonders and made me able to ride some circular rides that I had not ridden in years. The kicker was that I was able to marathon Maverick without getting that woozy feeling right after the ride. In the past year and a half I took a cross country trip of Costa Rica and then another separate one of Ecuador and used Dramamine for the times I didn't drive when were going through mountains. When I packed a backpack for CP, I found my Dramamine and decided to try it for the park and it just worked wonders. Now every visit to the park will include them, they just worked that good for me. If any of you have problems with certain rides, I highly recommend using an hour before you ride and then another dose in the middle of the day if you will be there for a full day.

Great idea! I cannot ride circular rides because of an inner ear imbalance. I am going to try this. Thanks for sharing.

I've been doing this for a long, long time. The only downside is it can make you drowsy (yes, even the non-drowsy version). Offset that with a five hour energy!

You can also walk into the first aid station and they will give you dramamine, free of charge. In case you forget it, or are incredibly cheap.

I get the stuff every time upon entering CP at the first aid station behind snoopy boutique. Sylvia, one of the workers at the desk when you enter, knows me well and as soon as she sees me walk in ,she gets out a packet and writes my name down.

I take it every time I go to the park. I get really bad motion sickness, even on non spinning rides, but that stuff really works. The only drawback I see is that it makes me really drowsy. So a 2 hour drive home at 10:00 pm after 12 hours of walking around the park can be a little rough sometimes, but a can of Mt Dew keeps me awake for the drive home.

We usually take Bonine when we visit the park. It's very similar to Dramamine and helps with the motion sickness, and find that it makes us less drowsy.

I take Dramamine before every visit to the park, and it works amazingly. Then a 5 hour energy for the drive home, and I'm in for a perfectly fine day

I actually prefer herbal ginger over Dramamine and other meds... Works great for me... I will take the herbal supplements of pure ginger or get ginger chew candies which are delicious. No drowsiness either!

I had started to feel woozy on Monster last year, I will have to keep the first aid station's Dramamine in mind this coming season so thanks for the tip. I must be getting old, spinning things are starting to affect me more so than they used to.

Ginger can help with an upset stomach, but doesn't help prevent motion sickness. The combo can be quite effective, however.

Works for me (ginger) and also was proven on mythbusters as well:

Remember to take quite a bit of it though... I will pop 3-4 ginger pills and take them throughout the day if I will be riding a lot... My dad tried it on a cruise and it didnt work, but I found out he only took like one or two pills for all day... You can't really OD on ginger, so up the dosage.

Huh. I guess I'll up my dosage. :)

I suffer from terrible motion sickness and used to load up on Dramamine. Problem was, in order for it to be effective for me, I had to OD on it.. usually 3 pills 30-60 minutes before getting to the park, then another 2 pills every 4 hours thereafter. For a long day at the park, this could amount to 8-10 pills, which is way more than recommended. Not only did it get me incredibly drowsy, but I often had side effects linger for a few days after (mainly upset stomach, ironically).

Two years ago, a friend recommended I try the Transderm-Scop patch that you put behind my ear, and it's an absolute miracle drug for me. It's prescription only and generally runs about $18 per patch, but each one lasts for 72 hours so it covers you for a whole weekend if you need it. It really changed how I visit parks. Even with the dramamine I couldn't marathon much at all. Now I can do at least 2 or 3 rides in a row before feeling like I need to take a break. The main side effect is a dry mouth which I take care of by keeping water handy, chewing gum, and using chap stick. Also, you need to put it on at least 4 hours before the activity which makes you sick, so it does require a little advance planning (I always put it on the night before). Either way, it's wonderful, and for anyone who suffers as bad as I do and finds that dramamine or bonine don't quite do the trick, I highly recommend it. I would also recommend it to friends or family who won't ride anything because they get sick.
