Dragster Roll-back 6-20

Just to let you all know, in case it hasn't been brought up, at approximately 7:45 tonight, the darker purple train only got up to about 80 mph on the launch, got about half way up the tower, and then rolled back. The ride did not reopen the rest of the evening.

Were there people on it??
I have a question. Why would this rollback shut the ride down. On that sign it says to "not be concerned about rollback, the train will slowly return to the launch position". There has to be more to story.....

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Are your ready for some speed? We've got 120 miles per hour! Are you ready to get vertical? We've got 420 feet. Are you ready for the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the world?! ARE YOU READY FOR TOP THRILL DRAGSTER?!?
On 6-19 there were two rollbacks. One with people, when the train got back to the launch area an op came out with the thing to manually release the restraints. 5mins later that train was launched blank and the riders got on the next train. The 2nd time the train was empty.

It rolled back 3 times while I was at the point. The first time was Wednesday night. They shot off a test run and it didn't even make it to the twist, and came back... very slowly.. The second time was Thursday morning about 8:25 in the morning.. It made it up and started to go over the top hat, then rolled back. The third time was on Thursday evening while I was waiting for MF at about 8 pm. I was watching TTD and one of the trains made it to the top and rolled back
Well the status page on the official site indicates that Dragster will be open tomorrow (Saturday) so at least it seems as if whatever closed it tonight was not a major problem.

Birdofprey00 is right, I was in line while the purple train rolled back. It only got up about half way, then started to roll back. Yes, people were on it. After the rollback the train very slowly rolled to the launch position (about five or six inches a minute). I decided to wait in line, and the ride op announced TTD was down. After another half hour, the mechanics said it would be a 'lenghty' delay. I still waited. I was going to be one of the first ones on if it got back up, but it never did. I got two exit passes, one for any ride, and one for TTD :). Today I went back to use an exit pass for MF, then went over to TTD. ALL of the trains were on the transfer tracks. I hope this doesn't take too long to fix. Luckily, yesterday I managed to get my first two TTD rides. Best ride I have ever been on. :)

TTD should be changed to TTL- Top Thrill Lawn Ornament! As of 6/14/03- Nevermind!

Excuse me, but this ride is a total piece of S***. It seems to me that Cedar Point isn't doing anything to fix the problem. I was there today (the 21st) and the trains were all off the track, and NOBODY was even anywhere near the ride. They definitely had no intentions of even trying to run the thing today. Yes, I've ridden dragster and it was a cool ride.....but how lousy is this thing? If you think about, why should Cedar Point really care if this thing works right or not? They got the world record again, sold a few more season passes because of this thing, and brought in a few more people during the early season crappy weather. Hey, it USED to work....oh well. What's 20 million to the point?
*Sigh*, now I have to jump all over Marcie like a rabid dog.

Alright, I'm really tired of all of these complaints against TTD. If you're gonna do it, at least get your facts right, TTD didn't cost 20 mil, it was 25 mil. Also, for all you know, they could have been working in the hydraulic room on something. I am actually surprised that they've been nice enough to open the ride lately. They could just say no and keep it closed for the rest of the season. But this is Cedar Point, they're being generous and letting some people have rides. I was there on last Tuesday and Wednesday. This was my only trip to the point this year and I probably won't be back till next year. I went there knowing that TTD was having problems and that I probably won't get a ride (although I was hopefull when I didn't see any failed launches on tuesday). I was dissapointed that I didn't get a ride, but I know that it'll be fixed eventually but right now they are having difficulties for various reasons (I won't get into that).

So, in short, I'm tired of all of you spoiled CP brats who couldn't get their ride on TTD today! I LIVE 20 HOURS AWAY FROM IT!!!

Marcie, "a few more season passes" is not going to make up for the $25 mil they spent on it. Of course they want it running, a bad rep will only hurt even more seeing as how they are currently in the spotlight. The are working as...aww hell, maybe if I stop feeding the trolls they will go away.

Yup, I'm with ya....I live some 12 hours away from the park. Though I'm heading out tomorrow for a week long trip, I'm hoping its up and running at some point during the course of my trip. If not, Well then i guess i'll have to wait till next year. I'm still going to have a hell of a time!

BTW, Anybody have any kind of REAL info on TTD...I'm getting sick coming here and reading pages and pages of whinning about TTD being down.

Let me defend myself a little bit here-I'm definitely not whining. I could really care less if Dragster is open or not...I just think Cedar Point is feeding people a bunch of bull**** and I feel BADLY for those of you who live so far away and can only make it up here a couple of times a year. I am one of those people who holds a season pass and i go to the park at least 7 times a year. I LOVE Cedar Point; I'm 21 now and I've been coming here since i was 9 years old. I only live 2 hours away. Yes, Dragster was fun, I rode it in May, But it's really not worth being bummed out over. I wasn't complaining for myself.

See that's just it-- Opening a ride up is a "nice" act? So if the person in charge wakes up in a pissed off mood he shuts dragster down for the day? I don't know, Cedar Point is being very vague about the whole thing....

As a shirt I saw in the park yesterday read, "DON'T BE AN ASSCLOWN." I believe this is very good advice for Marcie.

Sure it would be great if it was running reliably, but it's not. They are doing everything in their power to fix it (even if you don't see mechanics outside, because there is not much outside that has to do with the problem). Yes it sucks for people who live very far away and can't ride it, but from all the people I've overheard in the park, not many are too ticked off. A lot of them are just overwhelmed by its size. I hear, "That must be so awesome!" Not, "It's a piece of **** because it's not runing." It is actually probably giving people a reason to come back later in the season or next year if they don't get to ride it this year...

Is it really necessary to go off like you did about the ride like so many others already have? I think not.

This problem from Friday night of launching at a low speed and then rolling back sounds exactly like what happened the day before Coaster Mania. Hopefully it's not the same problem, as last time it was down for almost 2 weeks.

You aren't whining? Could've fooled all of us!

Seems to me in your first post that you do care if it's open or not.

Marcie said: I am one of those people who holds a season pass and i go to the park at least 7 times a year.

So what is it you want now? A big ol chocolate chip cookie or something?

Marcie said: But it's really not worth being bummed out over. I wasn't complaining for myself.

Then who exactly were you complaining for?

In an earlier post you also said something to the effect that "CP got the world record and sold a few season passes.... LA LA LA" If for one instant you think that that was all this park was out to do then you need to get off the ****. Yeah, I can see it now in the management meeting room at CP... "yeah let's spend 25 million on a ride and after it's all done and we sell a bunch of season passes and it breaks down we won't care about it anymore...let's be out to screw our customers."

Get in touch with a little bit of reality Marcie... it'll do you and those around you a lot of good.

Ok Ok I'm wrong.....I'm an assclown, silly me. Yes I'm sure Cedar Point is doing everything in their power to get this thing up and running agian. They certainly want people to be able to ride it to prevent them from having to come back later in the season.

Until then, it is a very "awe-ful" (awful?) tower.

In all honesty from what I have seen from everyone complaining about Dragster not being open only proves to me that intelligence and common sense is what most people are lacking in this world today.

lol. This is just too funny reading all your guys' arguments and everything. Keep it up ;)
For all we know when they "weren't working on it" they could have been waiting for parts to come in. Or as someone else mentioned in the hydraulics room. Perhaps they should hire a "pit crew" to run around like chickens with their heads cut off around all the trains to simulate a NASCAR race.... even if the REAL mechanics are working on a problem that is behind the scenes. This way people won't complain so much.

You guys that are complaining... come on.... PKI had problems with Son Of Beast its first year... and MANY "first of its kind" rides do. I feel CP is doing a great job of getting TTD up when it can and fixing expeditiously when its needed.
