Dragster @ Night!

Virtual Midway just updated with an awesome new wallpaper of TTD at night, with the countdown lights on! There is also a new video of night-time operation. It's great to see something new after all that downtime in the past month.

I have an issue with the wallpaper, though. Because of the placement of the "Virtual Midway" logo, it is cut off by the start menu when placed on my desktop (or probably everyone's desktop, for that matter.) Other than that, it is an awesome picture. Thanks for the update, Walt.

edit: I like some of the other wallpapers with the small "Virtual Midway" logo in the corner. It's not as distracting, although there is still an issue with the placement of the logo.

I agree, it has to be one of the nicest pictures of Dragster at night that I have saw.

After some feedback, I made some changes to the logo.

Those are really nice Walt! By the way, what camera do you use? I'm still looking in to buying a new camera, and I'm trying to get some input! Thanks!

Man, Walt... that's yet another great photo. Mucho props, man.

Evan: If you go digital, make sure you get at least a 3 megapixel camera... make sure it has a zoom lens and also make sure you buy a bigger memory card for it. You can find a really nice camera to take some decent pictures of roller coasters for under $500, you just have to look.

Also, make sure you get some sort of case to secure the camera... Then you can take it on at least some of the roller coasters.

Wow! Thanks for the help people. I'll be sure to do that bholcomb!

I just got the Canon S400 to use as my "vacation" camera, since the 10D is not exactly easy to carry around all of the time. I like the S400 now that I've learned a bit about its settings and how to turn down the sharpness.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

I know this is probably a stupid question that has been answered countless times before, but I just can't remember if the lights are supposed to go all the way down the tower (new ones will be put in), or if the setup in the photo is how it is going to be.

I bought a Kodak LS443 not very long ago, and I must say I love it! It's 4.0-megapixel camera for the very reasonable price of $400. It's the best camera that you will find for that price. Here's a sample picture I took. No levels were adjusted, it was only resized. I'm no professional photographer, but after carrying this camera around and taking some beautiful pictures, it makes me feel like one.

My next trip to CP, I hope to carry my camera around and take some pictures. I may get a photo gallery uploaded.

That is a very nice photo indeed. But I think I have you beat for the best deal, at least on GTTP. I just bought a Minolta f300 a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. (well maybe it could have a little better zoom) 5.0 megapixel, all kinds of modes I am still learning about and absolute great output, even at 11" X 17"!

I too am no professional, nor do I play one on TV but this is what even I was able to achieve with it.

I never took any semi-serious photos until I picked up this camera and I am now going completely nuts learning what it can do and looking for all types of cool photos to shoot.

Warning: BIG files.

Oh yeah, I forgot the price. $375.

nice stuff. Looks like I have new wallpaper! :)
Wow, Tambo. That first picture looking up at TTD is very impressive. It's actually one of the coolest Dragster pictures I've EVER seen. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I'm so new at this stuff that it took me quite a few times to catch it just right. But as I said before, it's the camera. It's so easy to use for the novice like me, but sophisticated enough for the more serious photog.

i put that night shot of dragster for my wallpaper and my dad (a social worker by day, hardcore photographer by night) commented on how good that picture was. good job!

can you say disposible? lol im just kidding...all of those pictures are great and well-taken, and those few pictures alone can show someone how much difference it makes with a good camera(especially with taking of Roller coasters) great job everyone! Just to ask walt, if you dont want to answer you dont have to, but do you get paid by CP for these superb camera shots?

The logo didn't bother me, and it is spectacular to see Dragster on my computer..I am getting Windows Media 9 now so I can see the movies, but it looks very nice from the still shot!

I was watching one of the construction site videos for TTD on Virtual Midway the other night, and I came across the September 21, 2002 one.
We had gone to CP that day last year for Halloweekends, and I thought, hmmmm...that'd be cool if we were in one of Walt's videos on his site. Anyway, I was watching, and I saw my dad, uncle, and my 2 aunts there!! ( I was somewhere else in the park with my other aunt, and 2 cousins at the time.) It was really cool!
They are the four people in the Sept. 21 one right after Walt is first panning over the construction site. On the left side of the screen there are four people walking down the midway under that tree, by the orange divider. There is no one else in the midway, so they aren't hard to miss. My dad and uncle are on the sides, and my aunts are in the middle.

Yeah..ok..I'm sure you all wanted to know that, but now I can say my dad is on Walt's Site, Virtual Midway . Ha!
