Has anyone ever actually used the dog kennels at Cedar Fair parks. I'm one of those crazy dog owners that just cannot leave my dogs at home. When we went to Kings Island last month for a day and a half we did have our neighbors watch them but my one has major separation anxiety so we were thinking it would be better to take them with us. I just have no idea how the kennels are, I know they are reasonable and we can check in on them throughout the day but they are my babies and I want to know that they are in good hands.
I've never used them, but it has been stated on here before that it's just a cage for them. The staff doesn't feed them or let them out for a walk, it's up to you to do that.
I would think it'd probably be better just to board them at a real kennel or leave them at home.
Thanks so much, it was deceiving on the description as it said they feed them dry dog food and water, I think I will be finding someone to watch them, I won't put them through that.
Call the staff and ask, instead of relying on hearsay on a message board.

Seriously, you'd trust the care decisions of your pets to a message board post?

My former girlfriend and veterinarian left her dog at both CP and KI in 2006. Seemed completely adequate to me, and she was fine with it.

Thanks, Jeff. That eases my mind too, as I'm a vet tech who would completely trust a fellow vets opinion.
Since I am a vet tech, my only recommendation would be to be sure your dog has all of his/her vaccines, but also the optional kennel cough vaccine (aka Bordetella). I would also be sure your pet is on a monthly flea preventative, and has a negative stool sample check for the sake of the other pets as well. Although I'm sure they already do since you are one of the "crazy dog owners" :)
I actually think it's better to have to walk your dogs yourself, even though it takes a few minutes out of your day. I know my dog would do better with me walking her than a stranger, and then you are able to check on them throughout the day too. Because of the pet owners coming in and out all day, I would assume it's clean, nice facility. I also would imagine that you could stop in there sometime and they could show you where your pet would stay before actually bringing your pet there.
The reason I didn't want to call is that of course they are going to tell you it's decent, you really think they are going to tell someone oh it's not that great? I do rely on firsthand experience which I think there is nothing wrong with. We have decided to have someone babysit them at our house instead, so they are in their home and not stressed out more.
I know someone from the Marina who constantly uses the kennel when they only go out for a day trip on their boat. They seem very pleased with it.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Maybe when you are at the park, stop by and check out the kennels.
They encourage people to do just that, you can see firsthand what it's like and judge for yourself if it meets your standards.
That way, for future planning, you have complete knowledge of what the staff provides and what the facilities are like.
Then you do not have to rely on other peoples perceptions and experiences, as you can tell just by reading posts on Pointbuzz- Two people can have completely different reactions from the exact same experience.
Anyway, just a suggestion. Glad you found them a babysitter at home :)

out of curiosity, where are these located? I don't ever recall seeing them there.

You know, the thing that looks like a giant Snoopy dog house.

I never go out that way anyway, so it was easy to miss. I'll look next time I'm up there.

The only thing I would add is keep in mind there could be a lot of dogs in there that are barkers and it can be very loud. We checked them out considering for our dog but it's kind of a crap shoot on what dogs would be in there that day. Our dog loves other dogs but I know she would be unnerved with all that racket.
