Do you miss the way the Blue Streak used to be?

I am talking about before the lap bar changes. It's still a good coaster but I miss the days gone by. The airtime was awesome. It is still pretty good but be painful at times.

Do you remember when the line started up by Calypso and went all they way down the midway. The red dots people waited for the train?

The airtime is outstanding now. The standard PTC lap bars aren't bad. The only thing I don't like is the high seat backs.

I rode Blue Streak for the first time ever this year and I absolutely loved it. I couldn't believe the great punch it packed. I rode it twice in a row.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Other than the hill before the pretzel turn on Magnum you get the best airtime in the park on Blue Streak. I always hit that ride at night on the way out a couple of times. You can usually get 5 rides in 20 minutes.

Yes, I miss it.

I don't just miss the way it was before 1996 (when the trains were BUTCHERED) but the way it was before 1994 (when the computer was installed).

You want to see what the Blue Streak is supposed to look like? Look here to see what you're missing.

I like the way it runs now, but I hate the trains, I hate the way the computer runs it, I hate the way the platform is set up, and I absolutely can't stand the recording.

Still, it's a lot better than Ohio's other 80-foot Allen/Hoover wood coaster. I just wish they could restore those poor defenseless trains.....

Gotta love that hand brake, how cool is that?

First trip June 23rd

I used to think that Blue Streak was pretty rough, but recently I rode it and it was superb! It felt so fast and the air time was amazing. I love the way it is now.

Thrills Around the Corner!

We have another Allen/Hoover wood in Ohio?

Whoops, I got it wrong.

There are two John Allen/Frank Hoover wood coasters in Ohio, one built in 1957, one built in 1964. The 1957 ride is the earliest John Allen coaster still in operation.

There are two additional John Allen wood coasters in Ohio, both built in 1972, but the list I have does not show Frank Hoover for those last two.

Blue Streak - Sandusky, Ohio
Beastie - Kings Mill, Ohio
Racer - Kings Mill, Ohio
Sea Dragon - Powell, Ohio

Those are the John Allen/Frank Hoover roller coasters in Ohio.

October 13 - Finally!

Top Thrill Dragster - 15
Millennium Force - 15

Yeah Rideman - now that is the Blue Streak I miss most.

I recall the buzz bars and hand brake, and the queue was in the front of the station. My son was lucky enough to ride it before the changes.

It's still one of my favorite coasters in the park, even with the computer and new lapbars...but I have to agree with Jeff that I preferred the shorter seat backs and bench seats.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

I can still see those hand brakes. Good times. I think I miss those more than I miss the old trains.

I think in this case Dave is just being a grumpy old enthusiast. :) Aside from the stupid seat backs, it's a ton of fun. Besides, those heavier trains help!

Don't get me wrong. I love Blue Streak and it is running great! Airtime is awesome. Yes I hate those seatbacks too. The same seatbacks I hate from Mean Streak. :( I just remember those glory old days - even without the seat dividers it was awesome.

I hate the seat dividers.

I remember when the line was inside the station, if you look to the right when you are passing the control booth, you can still see the markings on the cement where the q rails were.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I don't mind the lap bars, but i absolutely hate the seat dividers.

Still a fun ride though, for a woodie that's the oldest coaster in the park, it's pretty smooth. Says a lot about the maintainence.

I got to ride it just once in its old configuration. I remember at that time Blue Streak ride made Mean Streak look really really good! I remember it being a rough ride and not all that thrilling. I also remember being scared out of my wits because of the single position lap bar...

It's funny how things change.

I understand why they aren't using the big ol' levers for the brakes and I can see the arguement against the skid brakes. But for heaven's sakes set up the computer to "pulse" the brakes as the train is coming into the station. If the park is so concerned about safety, take a look how many times people try to get out of the train before it comes to the fourth and final stop. If you need an example of this new fangled "pulsing" go watch Vortex at Kings Island park.

The only good thing about the current configuration is that you can choose your seat. The Blue Streak continues to give great rides, though, and will always be one of my favorites.

I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74

I'll take this ride over Mean Streak any day. Goes to show you don't have to be the tallest/fastest to provide a fun ride. And yes, all of that extra weight on the trains from the additions makes it fly through the course, so can't complain there!

Cedar Point rocks my socks.
