We are thinking of heading over today for the starlight special, but it may rain the last two hours.
If it rains, then it's probably not worth it to drive (2 hours) and spend the money for only 3 dry hours at the park, unless they still run the rides.
Will they run the dragster in the rain? And the new ride?
Generally, the following weather conditions will affect the listed rides and attractions:
HIGH WINDS - These rides MAY close depending on wind speed and direction: Gemini, Giant Wheel, Magnum XL-200, Mantis, maXair, Mean Streak, Millennium Force, Power Tower, Raptor, RipCord, Sky Ride, Skyhawk, Skyscraper, Snoopy Bounce, Top Thrill Dragster , WindSeeker and Zoom Flume.
ANY PRECIPITATION - These rides WILL CLOSE: 4 x 4's, Challenge Raceway, Giant Wheel, Raptor, Top Thrill Dragster and Woodstock Express.
STEADY RAIN - All rides listed under ANY PRECIPITATION and the rides listed below will close: Calypso, Corkscrew, Gemini, Iron Dragon, Magnum XL-200, Mantis, Matterhorn, Maverick, Mean Streak, Millennium Force, SkyScraper and Snoopy Bounce.
HEAVY RAIN - All rides listed under ANY PRECIPITATION or STEADY RAIN and the rides listed below will close: Blue Streak, Junior Gemini, maXair, Mine Ride, Monster, Ocean Motion, Power Tower, Sky Ride, Skyhawk, Snake River Falls and Wicked Twister.
Thank You!!
Looks like we'll be going Thursday. This is our big end of summer fling, and for my boys 9 and 11, it's all about the rides. Thursday's weather is perfect and we'll just rearrange our other plans.
You know a lot about the park. Is the starlight special an okay way to visit? Can we have a good time and do everything on a "light" crowd day at the end of summer in only 5 hours? What do you think? We're only saving $10 per ticket, so it's not that big a deal, but it sounded pretty good to me.
I would definitely go all day. You might not get in all the big rides in only 5 hours, cause you never know how the lines might be.
I would not expect the crowds to be super light, but they should be better than over the weekend. A lot depends on your definition of "everything". Depending on crowds, you might have a tough time fitting in all of the most popular rides (Millennium, Maverick, Dragster, GateKeeper) in addition to riding the other big coasters.

Be forewarned: ANY rain, even sprinkles, shuts down TTD. Not because of safety concerns, because getting rain in your face at 120 mph is painful.
