Do they ever close a rides early because of low ridership?

I was just wondering because yesterday when we headed up to the front of the park it was 9:45 pm and BlueStreak was closed up. Lights on nobody home closed up. I was just wondering if they would have closed early if there weren't many/any riders or if the ride was actually down. We've been hitting it as our last coaster most nights and they've been running it until a little after 10pm. I figured we would get a ride or two in and I was kind of bummed. It's not a ride that seems to go down much.

Yes. They do.

Blows.

I've never seen them close rides early because of low ridership. It was probably down for one reason or another.

I was there at the same time last night, Paisley. We had ridden it, then rode Calypso, then Turnpike, then back to Blue Streak at 9:45 and it was closed and I wondered the same thing as you. We probably crossed paths somewhere!

The thing is, last night, all the major rides were such a long wait, that's why we went to Blue Streak.

By the way, my 8 year old's seat belt did catch this time, and his lap bar was normal this time. ;) I have sent a note to CP through their online form questioning the previous experience, though.

Did you get to ride it at all yesterday, Paisley? We were in the back car and I swear that back car was airborne a few times on it and would slam back down. Is it supposed to do that? I thought I knew these rides but I just don't know anymore.

Edit: by last night I meant Wednesday night so I don't know if your meant Thursday night a few hours ago.

The closest thing I have seen to Cedar Point closing attractions early are the water rides and one of the sides on Gemini. The only park I have witnessed this practice was 10 years ago at Kennywood.

It is perfectly normal for the Blue Streak cars to lift off the road wheels onto the upstop wheels as the train goes over the crest of hills and then slam back down. It's designed for that and it is part of what makes a wood coaster fun.

If they did close rides because of that then Mean Streak would close up about an hour before the park every night.

GO IRISH!!

Off course, can do that

They can do it but it doesn't mean they should.

The general policy is that they do not. I have had several experiences over the years where rides were re-opened after downtime/weather/etc with less than 30 minutes until closing. I'm sure others could also tell stories.

Cedar Point pays the ride operators to work until closing.

Yes, Wednesday night. No, I didn't get to ride it at all that trip. We had pretty much been letting the kids lead the way until we were heading up front and then it was Mom's turn to choose. Mom got robbed. We should be back some time next week and I'll hit it first. The back always flies off the track, some days more than others. Last Friday it was actually a little painful so I moved up front and left the kiddos to themselves.

I must be losing my mind. Kids and coasters and me, apparently not a good mix as I'm becoming more hypersensitive to any little thing. My 11 year old has taken to batting my hand away when I reach over to check his restraint when riding with him. Yes, I do let them ride their bikes around the neighborhood by themselves.

I think Magnum was doing the same thing, though, Wednesday, coming off the track and slamming back down over the bunny hills.

Paisley, I was reading last night that the seat dividers, and separate restraints were added to Blue Streak to discourage people from standing up on it. Because of those add-ons and the head rest, it lost its Coaster Classic status with ACE.

The rides will remain open as long as they can safely do so, even if it means opening the line 30 min before closing, it's happened to me several rainy days

Yes, people used to stand up all the time. If anybody here had their intials on the cupola at one time I say thanks for spoiling it for the rest of us. I understand the parent paranoia thing. Being married to a paramedic makes it even worse I think. I keep waiting to see someone smack their hand on the support beams of Magnum on the bunny hills.

Earlier this summer Maverick was down for weather. There was a small group of people waiting by the entrance a little before 10pm hoping for it to open. As many of you know, CP keeps the entrance to major rides open until 8 min. after closing. Maverick actually opened at around 10:03 to allow everyone waiting outside and on the platform to ride. Simply awesome service!

No, they don't. Even if they did, they wouldn't close rides in the part of the park that guests must pass through on their way out.

Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

No, they don't.

There could have been another circumstance present that caused the ride to close early.
