Do i still have time to lose weight if i would like to go to cedar point this year?

I would like to go to Cedar Point this season in the summer time. But do i still have time to lose the weight? I thought maybe i did being as though it is still March.

You could with a little effort lose two pounds per week. If you're really, really overweight, you could lose even more.

Well i think i am around 245 but my breast and thigh area would be the biggest issue for me. I didn't get to go to Cedar Point last year because of my weight. But i would like to go this summer hopefully. I have a elliptical and treadmill i was told that those would help to lose weight. And also changing what i eat. I'm sure a lot of people have issues with their weight and Cedar Point. I just don't want to go and end up doing the walk of shame.

Changing what you eat does wonders. In general, people should eat a lot more veggies and less grains and meats. I was wildly successful at doing the Thin and Healthy diet in 2010 and I'm currently making another go at it again and keeping my habits that way.

Granted, I'm a guy and weight is easier to lose, but the premise of the diet is to eat a lot of vegetables and not so much grain and meats. It's two months from opening day and its conceivable that you could lose 16-20lbs if you start today and keep with it.

Good luck!

Well i am a girl so it would be a little harder for me to lose weight. I was thinking about going to Cedar Point in June, July or August. I know that staying away from the soda and junk food is also a good idea. Thanks for the encouragement : )

Candy, I am a personal trainer and some advice I would like to give you is to get a body composition scale. A body composition scale measures your body's fat percentage, along with %water weight, and muscle mass. You don't need to lose weight. What you want to do is reduce body fat. Set your goal to get to about 24% body fat.

Of course I'm bias, but join your local YMCA. They have great programs in place to help you out. They will develop an exercise and nutrition program for you. If you stay on your exercise program, there is little doubt you will be ready to go.

One of the secrets is to to get some physical activity every day. You of course have to cut out bags of chips and such (which I did) but the activity will do wonders. I'm down 20 lbs. in a biggest loser contest at the fire department ( since second week in January) doing not much else but eliptical for 1/2 hour a day and a fitdeck workout on shift days. Plenty of time for you to get some weight off and enjoy the rides if you stay commited.

The key to losing weight is to track all your calories every day and limit your intake to a level that will allow you to lose weight, probably around 1200 to 1500 calories per day.

There are some web sites and phone apps out there that make it easy for you to keep track. If you start now, you can be down to about 220 by the middle of June or about 205 by the middle of August.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The formula is simple. Burn more calories than you consume. You will initially lose weight quickly when you first start your exercise program. Most of the weight loss will be fluids. Over time, with a good program, you should lose about 1-2 lbs of fat weight per week, though you can not measure that on scales alone. When you start working out, you will gain some muscle weight. Do not get discouraged if you don't lose all the weight you want to just by looking at scales. My advice has always been weigh yourself in the morning first thing but only once per week. That will give you a trend. Dont weigh daily as everyone has daily fluctuations in weight.

You will probably hit a plateau where you will not lose much weight on scales. But just remember, you are going down in fat weight and increasing in muscle weight. Thats a good thing that doesn't show up on scales. Don't do the fad diets, they don't work. To keep weight off, its a lifestyle change you are looking for. Lay off the soft drinks and drink water. That's one of the best things to start with.

As Pete said, there are good websites out there, but working with a professional is a good option too.
