Disaster Transport Story?

Okay, exactly what is the DT storyline. I know it is cargo, space pirates, and Alaksa but what is the true story. My logic is that you are delievering cargo through space and then space pirates attack you and finally you end up in Alaska. If my idea is correct why do the employees say 'Enjoy your flight to Alaska'?
You're a passenger on the ship that is delivering the cargo, the space pirates attack, and you do finally make it safely to Alaska. The cargo is going to Alaska - you are supposed to go there! It would be better if all the scenery in the queue was still there: the destination posters as you enter, the gold robot (Dave), the cargo bay, the repair bay, Frank the talking rocket booster robot, the moving repair arms on the docked shuttle, the television moniters with the stewardess that explains your flight... And that's only the stuff in the line! Ah well...

CrystalKat, do you know why they got rid of all the special effects?
I would imagine that DT's effects have not been taken care of, for theyare not a top prioroty of the park. I could be wrong.

I really miss the old queue special effects. They were always a lot of fun to watch when they were working!

Exactly, FireDragon. They just haven't been kept up. The first year (1990), the ride would shut down if the foggers on the lift stopped working - now most riders don't even know that the lift is supposed to have fog! The problem is that when one or two effects break, there are bigger things in the park to worry about, but all those little things really add up after awhile (like 10 years or so...). It is sad, but it is still a nice ride.

Space Pirates? And a trip to Alaska??? Put together in one ride?????? Genious I tell you, pure GENIOUS!!! I really hope that Cedar Point will just stick to building great coasters, cause themeing just isnt their thing.
DT effects started going downhill after that big accedent on the ride. After all those people got hurt by falling planets or whatever it was, CP didn't want to stick anymore money into the ride. So now if something breaks, they don't fix it.
I don't know if I'd blame it on the incident, since that happened in 1990, when the ride was still "new".

Anyway, you're taking a trip to Alaska by way of Dispatch Master Transport, a sub-orbital journey that is so fast that the company motto is, "We get you there in under five minutes, or we don't get you there at all!" Anyway, I don't know the whole storyline (for instance, why do we go through the warehouse, control room, and maintenance shop on our way to the gate?) but the general idea is that it's one of these deregulated fly-on-a-shoestring-and-a-prayer kinds of transport carriers.

Perhaps someone more familiar with the ride than me can fill in the gaps. For instance, is RBB-11 the propellant or the cargo?

(if I remember correctly, RBB stands for Really Big Bang)

Yeah, I remember those robot guys. I recall that the first time I rode it along time ago, that I had to wait in like an hour line. Then we walked into the room with the robots and I got really scared of them. I was trying not to look at them because they were so scary. After that on the ride, I was really scared of more robots. But I do remember the very first room and the space room at the bottom of the first drop. Then I closed my eyes and missed the room with the big ships. Sadly, acouple years later when I rode it again, most of it was all gone. I still regret that I closed my eyes. And Goliath, that is one awsome quote!
Long live the Space Pirates and Dispatch One!
Maybe I just forgot but why did they enclose the ride anyway? I think it was fine just as Avalanche Run.

If you're looking for me, I'm on Mean Streak or at the Elephant Ear stand. Always.
I miss the robot dave the most.also i think the fog on the lift hill actualy worked for a short time last year.

Sounds kind of like the airline formerly known as ValuJet. :)

I am sure others can tell the real reason for enclosing the ride....But if I remember correctly, it was because Avalanche Run had poor rider capacity per hour rates....I think to the extent that the brass felt misled by the ride Manufacturer and Intamin showed them a way to get the capacity, so they went for the DT concept....
Maybe it's not the space pirates that make the pilot "lose control." Maybe we are carrying unused oxygen tanks that explode.

I'm not sure covering it would increase the capacity from a PPH point of view. It would allow them to not shut it down every time it rained a bit for I'm sure a bobsled is the first to close when it rains. It made it more appealing the first years though. I waited almost 2 hours to ride what was still basically Avalanche Run! At least the queue effects were working.

One last thing, Did the one "train" that sits outside work before, or is that just decoration?

How many trains does Disaster Transport have, including the one that sits outside the building? Is that an extra one that may be used if another train isn't working properly? I'm assuming that another train can't be added to the course due to the number of blocks on the course and the one outside the building is just a spare.

Yeah, Jeff, but I didn't want to come out and say that. But that seems to be the general idea. And I am convinced that FRANC's personality is modelled after Marvin from HHGG.....

Oh, God, I'm so depressed. And I have this terrible pain in all the diodes down my right side...

Disaster runs 6 shuttles at a time (CPGONEDISNEY, help me out here!) as far as I can remember - it's been a while! The shuttle that sits outside is a spare, for lack of a better term, but they are rotated throughout the season. Maintenance keeps track of the run time that each shuttle has, and they try to keep it balanced (helps with replacing parts and all). If you watch through the summer, it will change.

Okay I can help ya out Crystal.
A: Disaster Transports effects are no longer in use because of many reasons. They no longer have cue line effects due to a bad rain storm in 1994(I think it was 94). As you all probably know the building over the ride was done very poorly and leaked every time it rained. ( BUT IT IS INSIDE!!LOL right crystal?) The effects, such as Dave who is doing quit well in pieces in the tech services office, got shorted out when the bad storm hit. That is why they no longer work. CP tried to fix things like dave but were unsuccessful. The blank screen right before you drop in to the helix used to be a film with a ship spinning out of control and fog leaking out the center of the screen. That no longer works because the projector was from like 1920, no joke, and melted the film. The ordered new film that I found laying in the projection room from 1996 i think. But as usual they thought DT was not worth fixing. While I was on DT I tried like hell to get things fixed. Management claimed that they were not aware of all the things that needed fixed. The only things I got fixed were the hanging strobes in the helix(which I was told were discontinued) and a couple of the speils. Oh well thats CP!!
B: Disaster can run 6 trains( 7 if the employees BUST*****but they will never try it.) They have & and they are rotated so each train gets the same amount of running time. Maintenance transfers( thanks to my wonderful being crushed by a train incident, it hurt!) Sometimes during bonus and halloweekends they run 5.
Now that I have bored everyone I'll stop now!!lol

whatever happend to the disaster posters in the entrance - like Rome destroyed by volcano, London by flood, Greek Baths, Destroyed, Bangkok Palace destroyed by fire and exc. I thought that was the coolest part of the ride looking at the posters to see what got destroyed. What Happend to them?
