Last Monday when I rode Disaster Transport, the tie-dye screen thing in the "crashed spaceship" room was lit up, the crashed spaceship was lit up, the disco ball in the one room was on, and the creepy music was playing in the queue line.
^Yeah was it the pink and blue tie die one? And they always play that really creepy music. I also saw a light up novelty stand.

Just ride it with your sunglasses on. :) That's what I did the other day, and it was the funnest that it has been in a while.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
Yeah, it was the pink and blue one. I saw that light-up necklace/novelty stand up, too.
This is a little off topic, but I found a YouTube video that some guy made saying that Disaster Transport is apparently "haunted."

I really thought that it was stupid, but it's got me wondering: is Disaster Transport haunted by a man who fell to his death while building the enclosure? Does anyone know anything about this, or is this just some kind of fake?

I am sure most of the GP would notice if they rode it with the lights working and then the next time they are turned off. It doesn't take anything away from the ride? Those four blinding flashing lights at the end of the tunnel added excitement to an already great launch. It made it seem like it was going so much faster. Electricity cost? Really? Do you know how much electricity Wicked Twister uses every launch? And you think they are worried about saving money on how much those lights are in Maverick's tunnel?
They add to the ride. Just like the water bombs. If they "can't afford it" (which they can) they shouldn't have put it in in the first place.
I have a question for you. Would you rather have more effects on Starlight Experience or 4 lights on Maverick? I don't think you get how their budget has always worked. When they add a new ride that requires effects, some of the effects on the other rides have to be canned.
I agree that it looks cool, but you and I look at it differently. You look at it from how it adds to the ride (and that is fine), and I look at it from a very conservative financial standpoint.

Huh?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Is it anything more than speculation at this point to say that the deterioration of theming is a result of calculated budget decisions? I'm not exactly calling it out as BS, but I've yet to see anything sourced, or a statement from anyone who would be considered in the know.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
Cedar Point is a theme park. Its theme is that of an amusement park that sporadically pays attention to theming. ;)

The thing is Starlight wasn't added to this year. If anything some lights were taken down. Do you think 4 lights in Maverick's tunnel is what Cedar Fair is worrying about? They just built 2 coasters in other parks that together are more than $50 Million. Those lights are nothing compared to other things the park spends money on.

Not only that, but light bulbs are pretty cheap.

I'll even take coolkids side on that one. Even if the bulbs weren't cheap, its not that hard to replace them.

But the thing I am saying is, is the tunnel or even the theming the thing that drags people to the ride? That is what Disaster Transport (or at least tricks riders) main draw is. Even on STR, that is one crucial part of the ride. My main question is, why run the effects in the tunnel when it isn't crucial to do.

And thats my point. Its not a crucial part of the ride, but why just stick to the ride and that is it. Thats the problem. Cedar fair just sticks a ride down somewhere and just says "ahh its good enough". Is the tunnel good enough? Sure. Could it be more than "good enough"? Yes. The attention to detail is what makes a ride more than a ride. Read the first few paragraphs of this movie review. http://www.nj.com/entertainment/movies/index.ssf/2010/06/toy_story_3_movie_review_a_story_that_just_keeps_getting_better.html
It shows that America is stuck with just being "good enough". I'm pretty sure Disney doesn't settle for that.
Let's Get Weird.
Anyone else see the irony in making arbitrary decisions about what is and is not "crucial," when discussing machines that expend great amounts of energy, only to return their components right back to the starting point and accomplishing no real 'work' in the process?
By that logic, why even bother with color schemes? It's not as if it's crucial that Maverick's track be red, after all.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
The tunnel launch with the lights, are my favorate part of maverick.

Hey guys, does Disaster open up with the park at 10:00 or does it open up 1 hr later?
For some reason I was thinking both Cedar Creek and Disaster open up 1 hr later than the park.
On a side note I rode it on Monday which was a hot day and the waiting line was very nicely air conditioned but the ride itself felt like it was 150 degrees along with being almost completely dark the whole way besides the initial tunnel. We decided not to ride it again even though it was a walk on ride with no line
