Disaster Transport

^That was the point I was getting to... ;)

How did one ride having worse capacity have to do with it anyway, it's still slow wether there are worse rides are not. XD

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

Disaster Transport is an average ride (that is better than average for the younger rider) in a horrendous steel box in the worst possible location for the park. Really. I can't think of a worse place than on the prime beachfront property that should be a boardwalk connecting the park to the lake. For that reason alone i wouldn't mind seeing the demise of the dispatch master transport. On the other hand i would much rather see it moved to a better location in the park, preferably without the corrugated steel.

Indy's back and just in time.

Can anyone think of a good alternate location for Disaster Transport?

The good: D.A.V.E. was very cool, interacting with the videos. Space pirates and crash landings! The crew uniforms looked really sharp in black light. The on-ride voices and scenery were mostly well done.

The bad: Ride is too short. The lap bar release causes injuries unless you lift your hands. The whining voice of the supervisor binocular thing was annoying. The whole first waiting room was confusing too - remember the posters that apparently indicated all those destination cities were flooded? What do melting polar ice caps have to do with a transport company theme?

The ugly: Wasting a tremendous lake view on that clunky building (I still miss Jumbo Jet and the stunning scenery from the spiral lift.) On a scorching day, DT's pre-lift area was sickening with stale hot air, smoke and flashing light/dark extremes. More than once it made me want to hurl but that has been improved a lot. Unfortunately now the theming is broken down, dirty and pathetic. What's the deal with selling paper glasses for a few lame minutes waiting in line, too?

I dont have any problem with the ride...BUT...the problem with the theming is that today is simply makes no sense.

I have no problem understanding it because I've been to CP every year since 1979. However, each time I am in line today, I hear people asking about what all the wierd little handprints mean, why its called disaster transport, etc...

Here's my suggestion. Keep it, but do one of two things; either bring the theming back to some type of comprehensible level, or scrap the theming all together and make it simply a completely pitch-black ride, which could be cool, actually.

Promoter of fog.

Although I have consistently defended DT, I will concede that as it stands now the theming is inadequate. I'd really love to see them get the robot working again, maybe even improve on the original theming. But the fact that CF has done little other than to slap on some groovy paint effects in order to sell 3-D glasses suggests that this is not part of their future game plan for the ride. Five or ten years from now, DT will probably either be gone or vastly changed. I still think a Peanuts-themed re-do would be interesting and fun.

I say re-theme it back to something like its original theme; bobsled. Make it seem like a runaway bobsled that has a run in with the abominable snowman. Though I think it sounds too much like Expedition Everest. But something could still be done along those lines.

I also like the ride (and its air-conditioned line:)), but there is so much better technology today that could be used to make an awesome indoor coaster. I think that if CP and Intamin were to team and make a highly themed indoor coaster (think Rockin Roller Coaster) it could be one of the park's best rides.

I think that the only reason they might keep it is because it's a family ride.

I think it would be nice for a faster/more intense Roller Coaster to be in Disaster Transport's place. But now that they have Kings Island's Flight of Fear, it wouldn't be necessary.

I've always thought it would make a good haunted coaster if re-themed correctly. They could also make it a fun house/coaster with the line up area being the fun-house part and then have a bright black-light painted coaster run area to match.

Why? I'd take FoF over DT anyday of the week. Just because another park has an indoor coaster doesn't mean CP can't interchange. Thats all theoretical anyway.

i dont think that we will see any change of dt's theme, but maybe an update on it's theme. And even that will be quite the task and unlikely.

im a freak for cp

Well it's obvious we wont see a change in theme.....Kinzel wouldn't allow it.;)

What was the purpose of building over DT? I liked it better before it had the building over it.

There are a number of conflicting reports that suggest that the sand from the beach had a negative affect on the ride's operation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ad3fRYkYkk Faily funny DT video if any of you havent seen it yet. I dont know who made it (probably one of you) but worth a watch. :)

It is a dog of a ride. Restore the lake view and remove the building. The theming is too much to maintain for cp without an animatronics department like Disney has. Take down the shed, rename the ride "Avalanche Run". Try some simple Swiss theming and make the chutes blue with bobsleds travelling the trough. Ahh....

Don't know where I came up with the idea, just sounds neat. What do you think?
