Disaster Transport & Avalanche Run

My very first trip to CP was in 2000, so I'm not quite familiar with the history. I've only riden Disaster Transport once, and I know that it was formaly called Avalanche Run and wasn't enclosed. But I'm wondering....does Disaster Transport have the same layout that Avalanche Run had?

UPS...What can brown do for you?

YES I belive it does don't worry ive only ridden it like 6 times.

hope this helps

Yes, same layout and everything. During the winter of 1989-1990, they enclosed Avalanche Run in a building and re-named it to Disaster Transport. That's the only difference :)

Actually, i'm pretty sure that after it was enclosed, the name was Dispatch Master Transport but people started calling it Disaster Transport.

Actually... it's always been called Disaster Transport. Virtual Midway explains here that after Avalanche Run closed and was rethemed, the ride reopened with that as the name. You're correct slightly, though... the premise of the ride, as I understand it, is that you're riding a shuttle to Alaska operated by (?) the Dispatch Master Transport system. Since the shuttle is supposedly losing control during your flight, it's a "disaster," hence the play on words and the name of the ride. (I hope I have the storyline all correct; I've never ridden it with the theming like it was in 1990).

Dispatch Master Transport. I have a postcard of an artist's rendition of DT and there was a neon sign on the building that read "Dispatch Master Transport." Then it had Dis aster Transport light up in a different color.

Guys, the ride's name is Disaster Transport. Anyone else think they should start making T-shirts that read, "Disaster Transport.....I rode it for the AC!"
i rode the rides when they opened and well re-opened. i personally liked avalanche run better, but the AC is nice. yes it was a transport to alaska, there were robots and abunch of things not there now. big screen with your tour guide. on the ride itself it had stuff going on and i remember hearing ahhh i am losing control!but unfortunatly it looks like junk now and the only thrill to it is not knowing if there is a bobsled stopped in-front of you! it is now a real and total dark ride!

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!
I think Disaster Transport has the slowest lift ever. For Avalanche Run I was only a small baby when it was reovated.

Lol, I must be the only person here that actually likes Disaster Transport.

I like DT, always have. Even though the themeing is a far cry from what it used to be, the cleanup they did last year helps.

I like the coaster itself because it's different and a great family ride.

Does anyone know if they are going to continue the DT renovation that they started last year?

ONE freeway stamp a day... ONE

I think Disaster Transport is great break from all the other rides (and also the heat of the summer). It's actually nice to wait in line there for the AC and the theming is slightly interesting. I think they have done a good job with it.

I LOVE Disaster Transport, yes it's not what it used to be, but it's fun and different. :)

Friend 1 to me: What is with you and Cedar Point? You're obsessed.
Friend 2 to her: You have no idea.

i personally think they should have kept it open, the theming has gone down the proverbial tubes...raptor1117, good idea there for a t-shirt... submit it and lets see what happens...

I love Disaster Transport. You just have to take the ride for what it is. All rides are not going to scare the crap out of you (TTD). Its a fun ride and I love it.

I've always wondered were the trains on avalanche run always the little shuttle type things they have one there now or were the ever the articulated single or double seat bobsled trains. Such as these trains on Avalanche at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

No. It always had just single cars.
