Direction question

I much prefer 2 as well. As others have said once you get past Oregon it's smooth sailing unless you get behind a truck which are far more prevalant during the weekdays.

The downside is driving it at night with truck lights coming at you and the super fun momentary blindness. Add some rain to the darkness and you have quite a harrowing experience.

Davis-Besse isn't all that interesting to see really... but I do agree with the 'creepy' factor, as Davis-Besse has had more accidents and safety violations then any other reactor in the country.

Oh, and your front bumper will be fishfly/mosquito Gettysburg when you get home too.

Yesterday on my way home from the point I was driving on the 280 and noticed an exit for OH 2. I know that driving there/home I take the 75 -280 - Ohio Turnpike - OH 4 - OH 2. Would it be a good idea to take the OH 2 directly to the 280 avoiding the other highways? I'd imagine if it was the shortest route mapquest would suggest taking that way, but I'm just wondering if anyone has done that before and how much longer a trip it would be? It seems like the OH 2 follows along the lake so I thought it might be a nice drive.

Take this way on your way, but at night it is best to take the turnpike. Instead of going straight to OH-2 from I-280 use this route.
- Take I-280 to 51(not sure if ohio or interstate road) towards Woodville Rd.
- About 2 miles down that road turn left onto Junction 579.(at a steve and berry's sportswear)
- Keep going until the road ends and it will end at OH-2, and turn right
- Exit at the 250 exit and follow signs to the CP(This is longer down OH-2 but a quick drive to the park once you have exited)

Hope this helps. I take it every time to cedar point and i go at least 10 times a year. It is vary quick and if you are willing to speed a little like me a very short drive. It will bypass all of the lights at the begining of OH-2.

Looking at Google Earth that looks like a great route and I'm going to try it out Tuesday, but instead of exiting at 250, get off the exit before that at OH 4 and bypass the tourist traffic.

Never tried getting off at OH 4, were does this take you to? By the way i have noticed that mostly if there is cops that they are haging out at the gas stations, mostly at a BP(don't remember exactly were it is located) and they are almost always at all the CP Exits. Are you going to TTD Ride night?

^Route 4 goes through downtown Sandusky, it has fewer lights and fewer traffic then 250. You have to make four turns from Route 2 to get there, one is onto Route 4 heading north, one is a left downtown (there are signs) followed by an immediate right (again a sign is there) the road will then curve on its own as it reaches the lake to head east, then at the CP off peninsula dorms (and a light) you take a left onto the Causeway.

If I take Route 4 into the park, I prefer to turn right onto Perkins... go past 250... turn left on Remington, and left on Cleveland. That way, you avoid 250 traffic, and you can make a right turn into the park, instead of waiting in the line to make a left.

Ive never had a problem with the light, its always changed rather quickly. Of course Im always there either for ERT opening or normal park opening (depending on if/who I am bringing) so I dont know what its like mid day.

I don't know what's so dangerous about RT 2. I've taken it every year for 3 years and have yet to feel in any danger. There's WAY less traffic on 2 than on the turnpike. Heck, I feel more in danger driving in a multilane highway with drivers that feel the need to do 15mph+ over the limit while swerving in and out of lanes!
Plus 2 has pit stops as well. They may not be as big and fancy as the turnpike's but they do what needs to be done. And as for being scenic, I'll take a relaxing country drive that also crosses over Sandusky Bay (offering a nice view of CP) over: farm.....farm.....farm.....corn.....farm.........large field of nothing......farm.........OH LOOK!!....farm.

And did I mention you don't have to pay to travel 2? I guess I didn't. Well you don't.

In all seriousness though, it's more a personal preference. Some people like the turnpike, some like 2. The distances aren't extremely different, so you're not really saving a HUGE amount of time taking one or the other. And you can barely tell the difference in speed......unless you’re a speed nut and like going over the speed limit.

The only thing to do is try the other route and see how you like it.

Yes Chris I'll be at TTD ride night and taking that route. And Adam, I agree with everything you said. The view of CP in the distance across Sandusky Bay is worth it in itself.

Finally someone agrees with me. I think you have I-280 Confused with the turnpike wich is 80/90. I-280 is the road leading to both, that used to be under construction, not like it matters. I agree that the turnpike is not that much safer, accept at night. I just take the turnpike home because its not like there is anything to see at night, and the bugs are always horrible during the summer. Plus after 12+ hours at the park i feel safer on the turnpike. I will give up the $2.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was in a typing frenzy and overlooked it.

And I can understand taking the turnpike as a homeward bound route (with the pit stops and all), but I'm too accustomed to taking 2. What can I say; I’m a creature of habit.:)

same here, i can't stand going with someone else who won't take 2 or let me drive. It ruins the entire day. I know i'm crazy!!

Seeing as how I almost died on Route 2 I would advise strongly against it. Although I was paying attention, the person behind me was not and rear-ended me at about 50 mph (I was at a dead stop behind a semi-truck). My car was totalled and I am very blessed still to be alive.

Sorry to hear that Craig, glad to hear you came out of it safely. But truth be told, you never know when something like that can happen. That idiots recklessness alone isn't what makes Rt 2 dangerous, it's reckless drivers in genreal.....which are everywhere you drive.

Being rear ended at 50mph could happen on any road, it may even be more likely on the Turnpike. If there's construction and it goes from 3 to 1 lanes in a mile or two it can be quite a surprise when traffic comes to a complete stop very quickly. I've been to CP three times so far this year, the first two times I took the Turnpike and the last time I took 2. Both times I took the Turnpike there was construction which had 2 lanes closed for almost 10 miles.

Speaking of directions. Has anyone ever stayed in Fremont. I have a friend that lives there. I am staying with them on monday and tuesday. Are there any good restraunts or anything between there and the point?

Sorry to hear that Craig. I'm just glad your okay. I've been to Cedar Point 5 times so far this year and each time I've taken Route 2. You do get the occassional aggressive driver on that route, but I've always done the speed limit and those who are impatient seem to just go around me, which I don't mind. Since I'm from Michigan, I would rather go the speed limit than get a ticket in a different state.

Maybe comming from PA, OH-2 isn't bad. My way has me going up The turnpike to Lorrain, then exit up to OH-2 where I-90 leaves. Then follow OH-2 all the way to US-6.

OH-2 For me is a typical Interstate to me.

00-03 - KP
04-Life - Just giving advice

Indy's back and just in time.

OH-2 I've seen a cop on there only once, but the turnpike I see oodles of police officers. Ohio has enough cops out to make me not speed.

Michigan can be the same way, but I never once felt the feeling of...screw it lets do 90 down this turnpike.
