Dippin' Dots

I've heard from two sources that a dippin' dots type ice cream product can be bought in local stores. Has anybody seen them and if so, where at?
I have never seen them, But that would be nice to see.

They probably sell some type of product other than the origional Dippin' Dots because I know that they have to be stored at a certain temperature so they don't stick together or something.
According to their website, Dippin' Dots aren't available in grocery stores. They also explained that the ice cream has to be kept at extremely cold temperatures to keep its dot shape. Average consumers don't have freezers that cold, so you would be limited to eating it as soon as you walked out the supermarket door unless you wanted dippin' soup.

What? Freezing is freezing, and I doubt very much that this stuff's freezing point is that different from water.

Silly marketing crap. ;)

Yeah, but the temp a given store's freezer is set at can vary widely.

I always buy Ice cream bars/sandwiches after lunch at one particular shop that keeps them just the right temperature for me--cold but soft. Other people prefer hard little ice cream briquettes--and they go somewhere else (and gnaw away at them like squirrels).

I'm guessing my favorite store's freezer would deliver Dippin' Smudgies.

Dippin' Dots must be stored at  -20 degrees, a temperature that is not attainable in home style freezer. It is available from the company but can't be stored. Sorry.

Actually the Dots site says -40, but I still don't buy it. I've frozen a small carton of Haagen-Dazs solid. But the thing that really makes me skeptical is that suddenly they need an entirely new supply chain front to back to transport "special" ice cream.

Ice cream of the future my ass. ;)

I went to dippin' dots (not at CP) and and a poster on the wall said that it's frozen from liquid to solid in about 2 seconds and they have to store it in a special way to keep it frozen.

Not that I'm questioning -40 temps, but....... On a 95 degree day I've seen huge lines for the ole dippin' dots line. Now I don't have a PhD, but I have a hard time keeping the cooler cold when I open and close it alot on a hot day. I figure that the dippin' dots lid is open almost all of the time during a 95+ degree day. How can you keep the compartment cold? Now I see these little Dippin' Dots carts all over and I don't see a two foot thick power cord that would be required to put that much cooling power into the Dippin Dots freezer. So whats up with the cooling? Is it like super conductive?

Just an observation......

I had Dippin' Dots today..... YUM!!! So i was wondering... how do they get the ice cream to be little balls?????
Its not ice cream, it's flavored ice balls.
There is an art to eating dippin' dots. Right out of the freezer is a bad thing. They are hard and you can feel tell how cold they are because they kind of feel sqeaky on your teeth when you bite them. Let them get to the point where they melt around the edge of the container. Then they stick well to the spoon and resemble ice cream. They taste like ice balls fresh out of the freezer, I agree.
Seems like to me its flavored dry ice balls. DD makes me so thirsty afterwards.
