different launches

i was wondering if anyone else noticed this. i was at CP opening day and rode TTD. the launch seemed to be quicker. it felt (and looked) like it was 0-120 in about 2 seconds. it was quite the rush.

then the next weekend i was there (after they put the other cars on the trains, and tweaked it) the launch seemed to be more drawn out instead of the massive punch like opening weekend.

I watched plenty of launches, and rode it both ways. i was wondering if anyone else noticed this change. I like the way it is now because the launch feels longer, but the opening weekend launch was powerfull and great to watch people's faces on the ride.

have a great day everyone. (btw, i'm going to be at the park tomorrow with a friend who hasent been up there since 1994... boy is he going to be in for a shock :) )

I was noticing the same thing. On opening day when you stood in line right by the track it whipped by, but i was there 2 weeks ago and was watching it test, it didnt seem to be going as fast. Maybe its just that we are used to the speed now, like at MF, i swear the train used to fly by the Queue line, now it seems like it crawls by.
Perhaps it has to do with the 5th car being added after opening day. That extra car has to make some kind of difference or they would have never taken them out. Just a guess though.

Raptor: yes, while watching opening weekend it seemed like the train was up to full speed by the end of the grandstands, now it seems like its just kicking in the turbo boosters by the end of the grandstands.

and i know what you mean about MF, but i think we are spoiled by seeing something faster ripping past the queue lines at 120 ala TTD.

I think the first time you see TTD it looks a lot faster than it does seeing it another day. MF does look slow now.

I think that the launch looks slower just because I am use to whipping my head to see it past me by, I wasn't there opening weekend, but I was there on May 23rd, and the train looked as if it was crawling over the top each time at about 116-118 mph on the speedometer that they use to have up. Now, it is still making it over the top the same way it use to but it doesn't seem as fast, so I just figured it was me.

Millenium does look slower, but somebody told me that it was fast at night because by than, "it warms up". And as I rode it three times yesterday, it did seem to have more zip to it at night, as fast as I always remembered it. But if you watch it in the morning, you wonder how it ever made it back to the station.

Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!

You're all spoiled!!!
Actually, I was there on the 4th, in line for TTD. It did seem like it was doing all it could by the time it got to the grandstands.

I also, noticed that MF looked like it belonged in Camp Snoopy. I guess I'm spoiled, as well. ;)

In the immortal words of Socrates, "I drank what?!"

They probably have slowed the launch acceleration down to save wear and tear on the cable. The greater the acceleration, the greater the initial stress on the cable. Most likely it was a factor in the cable's snapping.
On opening day I thought it was ZERO - 120 in well under 4 seconds. It was RIGHT NOW crazy. Glad i got to experience that beore it changed!

I was there yesterday 6-19 and got to ride. And the speedometer was there. It was clocking the trains in at 122-126 and the countdown lights on the tower are working! Simply amazing. wait wait wait i mean absolutely amazing!!

D/\MN GINA!!!!!!!!

I did not see the speedometer on the sign when I was there on the same day.

You are talking about where it was on the large sign attached to the mechanical room.... I didn't see it there in the 3 days I was there 17th - 19th

Yes I am talking about the large sign but it shows the speed on the top left corner. So one way or another you know the speed of the train flying by.

D/\MN GINA!!!!!!!!

Usually the speed of the train is 0 MPH, because the piece of crap is usually broken!

The speed sign is back up. I too noticed that the launched looked slower. It could have just been due to me seeeing tons of launches, or it could be that it is launching slower. Still it got up to 120 just fine.

BTW, on Thusday (when I last went), the line waiting for the TTD to open went way back to the lagoon under Iron Dragon. Everyother trip, the line only went back to the grandstands. I think the reason for this is the little pice of paper that they hand to every car parking that stated that TTD would be in operation that day. So my guess is that everyone assumed that it would open early so they all waited in line first thing in the morning.

I definitely noticed that too. A change from way back when and now in both appearance and feeling.

I believe that it actually DID go from 0-100 in a couple seconds, then just gradually accelerated that extra 20mph over the last couple seconds, but it still seems to be quite a big pull, just not as much. =/

I also noticed it launch around 124-125 when I was there on thursday.
